Is it only for "new money" (similar to what ING is doing)?

Not sure. I'm thinking it's for all and not just new deposits. We'll probably learn more tomorrow.

Verified. I had a few questions for HSBC and while I was waiting for a Rep, the background music/announcement verified 4.8% until April 30th! I validated this with the rep as well. Go HSBC!!! I just opened an account there too.

Cheers,
Ben

I havent got any email about 4.8%... is this for new customers only? or for new money only? does anyone have the email that they can forward to me (fratkid21@aol.com).

Also, in ref. to their slow transfer times: I took a cashiers check from Bank of America, and deposited at the HSBC atm yesterday, now we will see how long it takes for the money to post to my account....

So the new rate is only good until April 30th? I guess I am too lazy to move my money around.

I don't think there was an email, it appeared on their rates page.

Okay...

thank you for that link, I have pritned it out to keep it in my files just in case! It says everyone is eligible, so WOOHOO!

On another note, about the ATM deposit: I deposited the money on tuesday, and it is showing up in my account today (2 days vs. one week for transfer) --- so, if anyone is near an ATM, i recommend doing ATM deposit with cashiers check!

OK, I actually got an email today from HSBC, stating the 4.8 increase and how they are comparing themselves to ING... stating that they are giving the increase on old money too, unlike ING!!!

This rate lasts until April. Anyone have a guess at what it will go to after that? Do you think it will go back down to 4.25% or do your think they will up it a bit to 4.5%?

My shot-in-the-dark guess is that they'll go to either 4.30% or 4.35%. They've proven that they want to stick it to Emigrant and ING, and staying 5 or 10 basis points over them is probably enough.

Default ATM Fees

What happens if you make a deposit at a non-HSBC ATM or make a withdraw from a non-HSBC ATM?

I understand the ATM owner's bank can charge me a fee, however, does HSBC charge me a fee for conducting business at a non-HSBC ATM

Yes, the fee is $1.50.

EDIT: According to a post on epinions, you can withdraw without fee from any ATM listed at Alliance One. I have not confirmed this though.

i am not sure about HSBC's charge at other atms, but i am sure that there will be 2 fees, on from hsbc and one from the bank that you are using...

i however, do not recommend making a deposit at a "foreign" atm.

I opened an account with them about 4 days ago and there customer service was excellent. Very helpful with signing up online. My transfer funds went thru smoothly and plan on sending them more funds while I have 4.8% rate thru April. They told me that for the past year the rate has been at 4% and above and anticipate the rate to still be around there when the promotion period is over.
