Default Just to reinforce the notion of a price book...

The Albertson ad was actually advertising Tilapia for $3.99/lb and claiming that as a $4.00 savings! In my area, Tilapia shouldn't be more than $4.99/lb and Sunflower Markets has it for $3.99/lb all the time.

Obviously football weekend is the time when people become very stupid. All three of the large grocery stores ads had major markups before putting items "on sale" for the normal price. I saw only 3 loss leaders in those three ad papers combined.

Is it just me or does it seem like they are starting to do more and more markups for "sale" items?

It also seems so in my area, especialy with those 10 for $10, 5 for $10, etc. deals! The Price Book will clearly point these out!

I think it's just a rise in prices. I used to get frozen veggies free but now it's not $1/1 so I can't get it free.

Oh we have things that have gone up in price too. Unfortunately, the items I am talking about do go off "sale" and return to their normal price a lot of times or stay permanently on "sale".

The tilapia is a good example of the first since it went back to normal after its "sale". Eggs are a good example of the second. Safeway has a buy one get one free (4+ months) deal on them but the unit price is $5.25 (1 1/2 dozen). King Soopers doesn't have them on sale but 2 1 1/2 dozen eggs come to $5.50. So essentially the same price but one looks like a much bigger deal.

I insist that grocery prices have been rising quickly even though people disputed that in another thread.

I've been seeing it a lot where the permanent price of the item goes up, but it's "on sale" for a few weeks at the previous price.

Overall we're spending 10-15% more than a year ago for the same stuff.

If you read my post here I got a letter from the Food Bank that I donate too. Food prices in our area has gone up 5.7%. Milk is up 50% and so are eggs.

I agree with Sweeps (which thread was it that people were disputing a rise in prices)? It's too expensive.

I am a little surprised anyone would dispute that grocery prices are rising. I always considered that a permanent fact of life but then I have been grocery shopping for 10+ years so maybe I have just seen more of the change (I was my mother's human calculator). I will skip the melodramatic, Why I remember when milk was only..., lol. But yes, prices are definitely rising.

But then so is the cost of gas and how do you think they get the milk to the grocery store? I really hope people were just pulling your leg about prices going up. In a couple of months, I will be raising my grocery amount by $50 to cover the increases.
