Default Cheaper ground beef

Ususally when round roast or brisket go on sale, they are cheaper than ground beef. Instead of getting ground beef, get the beef that is on sale, and ask the butcher to ground it for you. The butchers rarely (if ever) charge for this service.

I remember as a youngster my mother hooking up some contraption on the counter top and grinding up the meat herself. I also seem to remember her throwing onions and other things with it.

We started shopping at Aldi's and we found that their meat is consistently half the price of the meat at Walmart. Or we have a local butcher shop/meat market that is also pretty cheap and they have extremely fresh meat. It also helps to try to plan a couple vegetarian meals every week - pasta or homemade pizza.

When my dil's mother was visiting her, she made hamburgers by adding crumbled bread and onions. They were delicious and made the ground chuck go around. She said that she did that for Salisbury steak as well. When I make Macaroni and Beef I only add a 1/2 lb of Ground Chuck. It tastes the same.
