I rarely have to throw anything out-I have three boys (17, 14 and 10) so EVERYTHING pretty much gets eaten.

I accidentally left a pound of ground beef out of the fridge overnight (stupid!!). It had cost me $1.99.

I try to use everything before it goes bad even if it means havin a salad for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I will still do it.

What I tossed recently was: eggshells, skin from carrot, cucumber and bananas. so I didn't throw away anuthing useful.

I have one expired yogurt in the fridge, will use it for pancakes tomorrow.

Someone told me that meat and dairy if kept in the fridge are good for extra 7 days after expiration date.

I have also used expired (about 2 month) cereal, flower and sugar, and no one got sick.

The canned stuff is still good after expiration date, for a couple month mostly.

I threw out an avocado. Cost me $.50. Was hoping to make some guacamole with it but just ran out of time.

I throw everything away on Sunday that is in the fridge. Probably not frugal, but hopefully healthy. I figure if nobody ate it by now, it probably would not get eaten. So, I threw out some canned peaches and mac/cheese that was not used.

i threw away half of a small butter container, of great northern beans.... kids do not like beans, because my son doesn't... trying to retrain them.. i told lexie my sister makes fudge from pinto beans... she looked surprised.. kids will not eat tomatoes, because their dad doesn't... my son is gonna be told not to show his opinion on foods he does not like... kids absorb everything he says, i don't think he realizes this..

Oh yeah, kids soooo pick up on it!

BIL dislikes everything, anytime my DH says he isn't trying something I call him by his brothers name! I hate hearing him expound on the dislike of some food and hearing his kids echo him, just for the sake of echoing...

SO true! I raised my nieces and nephew, and they would NOT eat "gravy" for anything...but they had to have "potato sauce" once we came up with a new name!

An avocado hit the compost this week. It broke my heart. It's not only an expensive veggie, it's one I love. No good reason for this to happen.

old corn on the cob, that we never used, spouse bought too much... his fault, this time. lol.
old slices of bread, leftovers that we forgot to eat... probably $5 in lost money... we did make over a thousand dollars this week in a garage sale... so, that makes up for the lost produce.

Markio, I'm getting to a point where I will only buy certain items when people come over because of the waste. I will make my own coleslaw and they can stay for a few days as will baked beans. Let your company know that your family is on a healthy lifestyle diet and suggest that they might want to bring anything special that they like. That is working out fine for us anymore. As for bread, you can freeze it before it gets to the stage of being thrown out and just thaw it for french toast, croutons, bread pudding, or just bread for the birds.

We save the heels and stuff for bird/duck bread. I just keep adding the heels to other bread sacks in the freezer. When we have enough and get around to it, we go feed the ducks and geese somewhere. The boys think it is totally great. We only wind up doing it a few times a year and so it stays special.
