I'm interested in that mock bullion mix recipe. She then bases some other recipes on that, including an onion soup mix. But the onion soup has sugar in it. Ehh? Sounds odd.

Joan, I think the sugar is probably a bit much on that one, I might use less but make it brown sugar to give it the same color as the store bought packages. I think it is somewhat standard to add a bit of sugar or salt this way. For something that is normally salty you add a SMALL bit of sugar for a kick and on something sweet adding a small bit of salt for a taste kick. Or, that's how I cook anyway, but that's just the way my Granny taught me.
