Default Wrongly priced items at the grocery

I recently read an article (I can't remember if it was in a magazine or the newspaper) about a woman who no longer could shop at two of her local grocery stores because she spent hours going through choosing items that were marked differently than what the shelf said. She said she she could buy groceries at a reduced price since the employees were not doing their job and the stores would give her the item as per their policy and often times a dollar back as well. Our stores don't usually have tags on canned goods or items on the shelves. If they charge you the wrong price and you catch it, they usually will give you the correct price if you can prove it -- I'm not a popular gal to get behind for this reason. However, none of our local groceries will give you the item free or even money for the trouble. How is with others? Do you have a free item offer?

Our local chain (Copps) has a price policy whereby the customer is given a free item or $5 whichever is less for any item not priced right. It does happen, but usually you need to be there very soon after the price changes to be lucky enough to catch them.

Just making the correction isn't enough in my book. What they are essentially saying is, "If you don't catch it, we keep the money. If you do catch it, we'll give it back."

We have three major grocery chains here. One will, in fact, only correct the price/give you back the difference. However, the other two do better with their customer service. One gives you back double the difference of the mis-priced item and the other will give you the product that scans incorrectly for free. In the case of the latter, if you buy more than one, they will give you one for free and adjust the price to the correct price on any other(s) of that same item.

Even Wal-Mart has a policy stating that if the scanned price is more than the actual price you get $3 off. If the price of the product is lower than $3.00, then you get the item free.

I buy things all the time that are marked on sale, but they are not. Since I go thru the u scan, I usually don't bother to get it corrected. I really should.

Our biggest grocery chain does have a policy for paying you something above the amount of the error. I don't remember what the policy is, because it is rarely a problem, and I do pay attention.
