Default Will you become a millionaire

When I was much younger, the thought of being a millionaire was something that I couldn't really conceive. But inflation makes a million less than what it used to be (but still quite enough for me to live on) and the chances are that I will be one when all my assets are included (the upside of rising housing prices).

Do you think you'll be a millionaire in your lifetime?

Yes... but a millionaire dollars isn't worth as much as it used to be.

My house is appreciating, assets that I have in cash, mutual funds, retirement account will grow. I don't have an exact time frame but probably with 25 years.

Again a miilon dollars is'nt nothing today consider gas prices, housing materials and maintaining children is a lot more expensive than it was per se In the 80's and the 90's.

Not sure if I will or not but like lots of others said a million sure isnt what it used to be. Maybe when the kids are grown & the house is paid for & I go back to work FT but then it wont be of much use I mean I would rather have it while raising kids ya know!!

I have aggressive retirement plans. I want to be able to walk away from any paying job by the time I'm 50. You just have to get aggressive about it. But if it's not something you really want then that's certainly fine too. Whatever floats your boat -- or yacht!

Well, we don't know what the future holds for us but that's the goal.

Actually, the goal is $2M because by the time we retire, we'll need about $2M to maintain our current lifestyle - which isn't fancy or lavish by any means, believe me.

According to my calculations below, I just need 10% return on my investment over 30 yrs to almost hit my goal

I hope to be. It is not outside the realm of possibility. I am now working towards retirement and our investment plan, rests mainly on real estate. As others have mentioned before house prices keep going up.

Yes, at my current rate of saving, but it will take about 30 years, when a million dollars won't be anything special

Wouldn't it be a grand time if each of us receive windfalls, then have our pictures and biographies in the Forbes list of "Top 100 Millionaires from Internet Forums"?

To really be able to retire while holding real estate, you would hope that your rent is going up along w/ the value of the property, right? I've seen a lot of places where rents are pretty stagnant, even though home prices are sky-high. It's probably a factor of unusually low interest rates.

You can say that again. Many people will be millionaires without even trying because of inflation.
