oddly, I actually find joy in the challenge of staying within a budget. I have always liked getting a good deal too, but I really like seeing my net worth increase from saving money.

It is what most people aren't willing to do. I agree that it is a hobby. It's good to keep a notebook and write down on a daily basis what you did that day to save money. I try to look everything over to see what I can do today that will either earn or save money. It's also good to see how interest grows.

Sometimes, it is not advantageous to take a small check to the bank to be cashed. It can be more money efficient to wait until the end of the week when you have something else to pay close by or to deposit. It usually isn't worh the gas to deposit a check that will earn you less than what you spend in gas.

I agree Aleta. I enjoy see the interest add up, but I don't run to the bank everytime I get a check from a survey company. I usually take those to the bank a couple of times a month.
I enjoy keeping track of my net worth each month also.

Something that I started doing was to keep my challenge money separate so that I could see what I had personally done to add to the savings. For instance, I know that the ING and Emigrant accounts are there because of my coupons that I have deposited along with the surveys, rebates, and cash rewards from my credit card. It is my contribution so it is really interesting to watch it grow, because I feel like its my baby to watch grow.

I love saving too. Specifically seeing the interest I earn each month. Nice chunk of change just for having my money sitting there.

I once read that saving is like exercise. The worse shape you're in the harder it is to get started. But the more you do it the easier it is and the more you enjoy it. I couldn't agree more.
