I'm with Broken Arrow - feeling somewhat guilty but I'd give 10% tithe either to a missionary or food bank and then give the remaining 90% to my husband to invest in his retirement account. He needs it!!

snoopy had a good idea. I would buy food too and donate it to the food bank. No one in america should ever have to go hungry!

I would call the church my il's are members of and ask them what supplies they could use for the soup kitchen ect.

I would buy milk for everyone of dd's classmates for snack time as far as $100 would go. As school supplies, fees, clothes ect cost a bundle as it is.

This actually happened to me about four years ago. I was approached to distribute a sum of money for an anonymous donor who wanted to benefit individuals rather than use an organized charity. I was asked because I was working at a social services organization. There were conditions imposed (number of gifts, maximums, etc.), but there was no required accounting.

It was one of the more difficult tasks I've ever undertaken, and one I would never accept again. I wasn't comfortable making judgments about need and merit. Worse still, I watched the outcomes, which were seldom what I would have anticipated.

I'd give it to my best friend,my sister. Geri does so much for me and seldom catches a break. I'd give it to her for anything she wanted, she deserves alot more.

It was certainly a learning experience, but not one I'd be willing to repeat.

I don't either. Our club gave a bunch of gifts to some needy children, we thought. We were sadly dissapointed in the way they reacted!
