Default Gas prices predicted to hit $5/gallon!

The article below is from CNN. It predicts that gas prices in the US could hit $5/gallon if Hurricane Rita hits Texas as hard as they say it will.

A buddy of mine drives 60 miles each day to work and then 60 miles back home. Even at a generous 30 miles per gallon, it will cost him $20 a day in gas just to get to work and back.

It'd be nice to prey for this hurricane just to completely disapear of the face of the world.. Unfortunately Rita is massive, and rolling into texas at dangerous speeds. I got a feeling its real, and should be feared.

There is no way to stop Rita nor its impending effect on gas prices.. So therefore I must readjust my lifestyle.

Looks like the latest predictions from the hurricane center has Rita headed towards the Texas-Louisiana border. Unfortunately, based on that CNN map of refineries, there are still many major refineries around there.

Isn't ironic that some scientists think that global warming will cause severe weather like hurricanes, and global warming is caused by burning fossil fuels. Now we have a second hurricane, possibly caused by global warming, barreling down on the largest field of oil refineries in North America.

How are ya'll going to combat the "crazy" gas prices. Are you going to fill every tank you have and fill gas cans? IMWK (Inquiring Minds Wanna Know)

I'm going to fill my car and my husbands car today as prices are still around 2.80 then we're just going to have to hope and pray for the best.

I think that prices will encourage many to carpool and/or use masss transit. I know that the aforementioned is not an option for everyone but lowered demand will help drop the price.

Kinda puts me in a pissy mood knowing the gov't and car companies and oil companies, have really practically achieved nothing when it comes to alternate fuel.

The talk about alternative fuels have been around since i can remember late 80s... and the best we got is "fuel cells" that will be out in exprimental mode maybe by 2010.

hybrids aren't exactly much of an answer. If u had a hybrid today, u'd just go back 2 or 3 years on gas prices.. but u got a worse car to drive in return.
