Its fair to say that gyms can be expensive. What are good cheap ways to stay in shape?

-calisthenics (push-ups, crunches, and the like)
-walk rather than drive when you can (and save the gas $$ too )
-i've read about some people using like soup cans or bottles of water in place of weights
-dance to a cd you already have or to the radio
-walk around the track at a local high school or middle school
-take your kids to the park and play with them, or just go yourself and join a game of basketball or something
-find out about any nice hiking trails in your area and go on a nice day
-someone on here recommended freecycle for free fitness equipment if you have the room

That's all I can think of for now.

I do a lot of exercise videos. You can get them pretty cheap used. Check out ebay or haf.com for good deals. Once your bored with it sell it and get a new one.

Walking is another good workout.

use things around the house. Milk jugs with water in them. Rocks outside. Branches from trees. Frugal requires creativity. Go 4 it!

Someone mentioned today that running around a park and picking up litter is a good exercice, plus of course you help clean up your park too.

You could even get a group together and make it a social event that keeps you fit and does alot of good at the same time.

Always check with your health insurance and employer to see if they have specials on gym memberships (if you feel you really need one). Most don't advertise it as a benefit but many times you can get discounts or help paying for a membership. I am lucky that we have a company sponsored gym on site thats 10 bucks a month (including towel service).

Sure is cheap here! Came with the ring!

I find playing with kids to be the cheapest, most readily availible (once you have one, sex has to wait till they are asleep), And most satisfying.

Dh 'rock and rolls' ()like crunching but more fun) with the kids (no room on my lap with a baby in the way .) and he does 'kid presses' and all sorts of wierd things that encourage lots of giggles (laughter is great excersise!)

I have to say he is in great shape , and no I am not just a biased wife, in a room of 30 something year old dads (specially 30 something year old computer geek dads) he stands out as trimest, most cut, and strongest if occasion to prove that arises. Yet he hasn't lifted a weight, ran a mile or anything else in ages (kids do get in the way of all that formal stuff.)

When not pregnant I found that chasing my kids keeps me slimmer and trimmer than when I worked out an hour a day. The nursing and walking to the nearby construction stuff helps, as do 'baby presses' (sorry can't do the kids to heavy!).

Remember what you did as a kid. You walk, run, bike, skip, jump, crawl, etc. There was never a thought about staying fit as a kid. Just emulate your youthful activities.
