Default Store Brands

I know this might have been brought up before but, does anyone prefer the store brands of items compared to the national brands? The one thing that always pops in my mind is the q-tips. I love the CVS and Walgreens brands so much better then the national brand.

I love store brands food. They are actually MUCH healthier considering they have less addictives/perservatives. They also taste much, much better because I hate the taste of artificial stuff.

I also love store brand kitten food. Store brand adult food is usually too much carbohydrates, but store brand kitten food is a very good bang for the buck.

The store brands are quality and lower priced. I cannot think of a Brand I HAVE TO HAVE.

Aren't a lot of the store brands now made by brand manufacturers, just labeled in different packaging or am I thinking of something else?

I have a friend who's worked at a grocery store for years and he said many things, like frozen pizzas and lots of others, are made by popular name brands, but just put in store-brand packages.

I generally actually prefer the taste of store brands because of the lack of addictives/perservatives.

However, the biggest problem with store brands is the inconsistancy of quality.

For example, Wal-Mart's Special Kitty Super Supper Dinner is a great bang for the buck, but all of their other canned cat foods are very crappy and cause diarrhea in my cats.

Also, their dry cat food has WAY too much carbohydrates....but I would feed their dry kitten food to my cats because it is a good value.

It seems with store brands, different formulas/varieties are made in different factories, etc. It usually take a lot of trial and error before I find what I like.

And if it does that to kittens, I'm not chancing it with my children... But as I have neither, I guess my point is moot.

I don't really have a preference except for a few scant items. Coke- no substitute for it, not even Pepsi... and Heinz Ketchup. Everything else I can wash down with coke or cover with Heinz

Sometimes, surprisingly, off-brands offer more variety.

I just tried a grapefruit soda from a store brand. I love it!!! More companies need to make grapefruit sodas.
