Default Hot Weather Saving

Are you doing anything special to keep your summer energy bill under control?

On the really hot days when I know I would be blasting my air conditioner the entire day to stay cool, I head down to the local library. The library is air conditioned and always cool. I just finsd a quiet spot to do my work. If I need to get on the Internet, there are plenty of computers at our library to do so. So I get just as much work done, but don't have to pay to keep my house cooled.

Another place I'll go if it gets really hot is the local mall. I'll spend a few hours widow shopping (I rarely buy anything) and getting a bit of exercise, while staying perfectly comfortable the entire time.

We've been lucky here in Michigan...I haven't had to turm my air conditioner on here all summer. One thing I do to make sure the house doesn't heat up too much is keep the blinds closed during the day so the sun doesn't shine in too much. I also keep the fans going all day. I avoid cooking using the over or the stovetop (i use the outdoor grill and microwave instead. I also make great use of cool wet wash cloths on the back of the neck.

I am terrible about using my oven..I love to bake!

but I do have a curtain over most of the windows..or blinds...or both..if you move the curtain (ok I admit it is a blanket) in the living room you can actually feel the temperature difference, on the window side is almost as bad as being outside, in here it is 80..just like always

actually some midnights it is only 76 or so..which is way cool in my opinion!

I cook all my meals at home. During the Summer to keep from heating up the house, I do my all my cooking first thing in the morning and then use the microwave to heat it up for the meals later on.
