Do you love your job?

Do you like your job or are you doing it for the money?

I'm in a changeover phase. I currently have 3 "jobs"

1) Freelance Writing - love to do

2) Website - love to do

3) eBay - enjoy doing, but main reason is so I can continue to do the other two jobs.

I'm in the process of trying to cut down on the hours I spend on ebay and devote them to my writing and this website with hopefully having those generate enough income to do full time. There is nothing wrong with ebay, I just don't have the passion for it that I do for the others - but it does bring in more money with less effort than the other two.

If the plan works as expected (how often does that ever happen???), I should be able to do only this website and freelance writing beginning next summer.

1. Mother - love it

2. Teaching - love it, would like to try to earn money doing it but on my terms (not for 6 hours!)

3. Nebnose (thats what I call the website stuff, really it is just a compilation of opinions) - like it, takes to much time though

DH actually gets paid

1. IT specialist - fancy way to say he fixes computer issues remotly, eh he likes computers I guess, like paying the bills

I actually asked him last night what he would like to do for a living assuming reality got tossed out the window and he could earn enough doing it, he said play games

My jobs pay the bills. The only reason I get up each morning and climb out of bed is to work, there is no love in it and when I've done my time, I'll retire and then do what I want to do every day.

I am thankful that I have a job, with so many people looking for work, I'm thankful that I'm employed, and that my employer allows me unprecidented freedoms which make it easier to function in the job but if I had my wish,and my future was financially secure, I wouldn't go to a job.

If I won the lottery, and it was enough to sustain me, I would quit my job with no hesitation. It is not fulfilling in the slightest and the benefits are non-existent. I've been job searching for the past three years. I would much rather be a freelance writer, personally, but I have no idea how you break into that. I'm glad you are doing things you love, jeffrey!

Absolutely love my job! but it took me almost 20 years to find the perfect job. Money's not bad either!

I agree with Sharon, the job is a necessity that pays the bills and allows me to prepay the mortgage and put something away for retirement. Even tho i've been here just 1/5 years, it's in a very interesting industry (i'm a marketing writer) like nearly every job i've had, things tend to get a bit routine and dull after a while.

If i won the lottery i would still want to work, mainly for social reasons and to keep my mind alert, but i would limit it to maybe 2 days a week, volunteer another day and the rest of the time would be mine, all mine. But i don't play the lottery, so guess that won't happen.

I've been fortunate to have had mostly very interesting and unique writing jobs, it's just that nearly anything will become boring if you do that, and nothing else, exclusively. Working for yourself like Jeffrey is different, you have much more autonomy over your schedule, and i have experienced that, but working for an employer usually involves constraints of many kinds.

Current job - mother. Love it

Unlike most others, I won't say I don't get paid for it, as DH writes over every other paycheck to me. We are a partnership in that way, and I take care of most all of our bills aside from the mortgage and property taxes.

Parttime job - math tutor. Like it. I'm not passionate about it, but it's fun when I get challenging questions and the extra money is nice.

When DD starts school in September, I'm going to be devoting more time to DivaTribe, and trying to figure out more tutoring that I can do during the day. Right now I have one distance student, and so far it's worked out pretty well.

I love all my work.

I wouldn't have it any other way being a mum. It's the best profession ever! However, I DO work for a fabulous person in a small office. Not only is he a great boss he is a great person.

Mothering -- I love--wish I could do it as a stay at home mom.

Working my full time job--I hate it. They are not family focused, and could care less if you have a life outside of the office. Sick kid, you get get written up for missing work--not allowed to take it as a vacation day, because those must be requested 14 days in advance--if that particular date is availabe. (like you know when a kid will be sick). Also, we can get written up for personal phone calls--I was given a verbal warning when the school called to tell me I had a kid with a 102 temp. I have given that place over 20 years, and it just keeps going downhill. But, I am a single mom, without a 4 year degree, making close to $25 an hour in a hick town. I would not make the same money even if I drove an hour one way everyday to the city, so I am stuck with it.....(where are all the rich single good looking guys????)

I love my job. It is a small non profit, and we are all close knit like a family. The President & CEO thinks of us like his children, when our significant others come in the office, he is SO happy to see them (mine in particular, he loves us together) and takes a real interest in our lives. They pay very well, really have your best interests at heart, and even people that 'haven't worked out' cannot say they were treated anything but fair. You would never just be fired (unless you did something VERY bad), because they meet with you several times to try to work on things. We all actually take pride in what we do... our boss will surprise us with catered breakfasts/lunches to show us how much he appreciates us, the list goes on... oh did I mention I am on medical leave, which usually you'll only get 70% of your pay, but my job has a provision in their disability policy so they pay me the other 30% because they CARE. I am very happy.

No I definitely do not enjoy my job. I am a teacher. This year I have one particular class that is driving me nuts. There are about 8 individuals that are rude, disobediant and lazy. I think I would love my job if all my students were motivated and eager. I would probably quit if it was not for the great holidays. I keep working to get money so that I can survive and save for my retirement. I am looking forward to retirement and I would like to retire by 55.

No, we are actually the HQ office, the only paid employees (there are chapters across the US of volunteers) -

sorry. I think that's why it works as well as it does though.

That is exactly why school needs to not be manditory, good teachers want out due to disruptive students who are there for the babysitting.

Have you looked into tutoring options or anything? maybe find the local homeschool group and see if you can work for them? Most HE parents look for outside sources eventually.

As for my pt job I hate it but it does allow me to stay home with my kids more thats the only reason I do it is for my kids. When middle dd goes to school in a year I will get a ft job & then I will get one I like I wouldnt be able to work FT at any job I dont like.

Hmmmm how do put this.......I generally enjoy what I do, as long as I am learning new things. I work as a software developer, and while I do enjoy it, there is a time when everthing starts to become a little stale. In the past whenever I felt this way, I would look for a new job (or career), but I do work for a good company with good pay and excellent benefits, so it has become harder for me to leave my current employer.

All the video game companies hire QC people. Thats what they do is play games and write down any bugs or issues.

While I dont hate my job I dont love my job either. It is interesting and I get to see a lot of neat stuff and learn how the company and competitors work. But I dont see myself here long term.

I am very much a work to live versus a live to work kinda guy.
