Default What is the most money you have ever found?

I was walking along the street on my way back from the store today and found a $10 bill just laying in the middle of the sidewalk. I couldn't believe my eyes. There was nobody else around so I picked it up.

Do you think that I should take it to the police? I feel bad, but since it wasn't in a wallet and there is no ID, if I took it to the police how would they ever know whose money it was. I think they would just keep it for themselves. (maybe I am too cynical).

Have you ever found money like this and what did you do?

I don't think there is any need to turn it into the police in this case. You might want to consider giving it to a charity, but that is completely up to you.

When I was about 16 (so 5 years ago obviously!) I found someones paypacket, there was about... $300 in cash. So I chased the family down the street to give it back to them.

At the time I must admit I was a bit unconventional looking - as teens sometimes do, and they just started screaming at me to leave their kids alone!!!

So I just handed the cash at them and went back to my friends.

No, I didn't keep any, maybe if I hadn't seen the man and his family it may have been different, but even back ten I knew I wouldn't feel good about spending the cash myself.

If it had been $10 and I hadn't seen anyone drop it I probably would have kept it though. I'd love to be in the position to make that decision!

I found a wallet once that had a few hundred dollars in it. I took it to the police and it was eventually returned to its proper owner (received a call from him thanking me). The largest amount I ever "found" was bout $500 of my own money in a bank account I had forgotten about from an article on this site: How To Find Missing Money That is actually how I go to this site in the first place and I've been hanging around ever since.

I'd say if you find over $50 you might report it, but anything less than that might not be worth the trouble...finders keepers!
