Budget-worthy place to rent along Maine/NH Seacoast?

My husband and I and a few of our friends would like to rent a place for a week along the Maine or New Hampshire seacoast. Our problem is, we don't want to spend more than $500 for a week, and we waited until now to look for a place (just came up with the idea).

All of us are on tight budgets, which is another reason we would like to travel together - so that we can split the cost! We checked into renting hotel rooms and right now they are well above $100 per night for two people. That would be at least $300 for our group per night. So we figured that renting a cottage that allowed 6 people would be much better.

I have looked a bit online but most are booked or way over our price range... does anyone know where to find good deals online for cottages near the ocean?

I'm sure people will have better suggestions than this, buy you might want to check out Maine's Craigs list under vacation rentals and see if you get lucky.

Check with some of the local realtors too. Most places usually rent for about $800-$1500 a week in the NH Lakes Region but someone may just want to unload a rental for alot less.
