Question Cell Phone w/monthly service VS Tracphone type

What are the pros/cons of each type of cell phone-one with a monthly charge or a pay-as-you-go one? I am totally clueless about the things, but I need one for my son. Thanks for any advice.

Lori,
I wrote an article about pro and cons about prepaid cell phones earlier in the year.

In the US I use Virgin Mobile. It's the cheapest pay-as-you-go with quality service I could find. The more air time you use, the cheaper your rate gets. I've never had a dropped call or poor customer service.

USD $50 goes for three (3) months on my phone. I can't find another service that can top that.

Good luck!

This is the best “pay as you go” cellular deal I’ve come across:

STI Mobile PCS LG Flipphone – FREE AFTER REBATE

$89 – 12% Coupon = $78.32 – $79 Rebate = FREE

Minutes Never Expire –.10 Nights/Weekends & .12 Days

Utilizes SPRINT’s nationwide network.

To recharge you simply order $10, $25, $50 or $100 STI Mobile refill cards from www.cheapphonecards.com. You will receive them instantly via e-mail.

THREE IMPORTANT CONDITIONS:

* They are VERY strict about the rebate being postmarked within 14 days of purchase.

* You need to make or receive a call (could be less than one minute) at least once within every 60 days (something to keep in mind if used as an emergency phone).

* You cannot have zero minutes for more than 14 consecutive days or you will have to reactivate ($4.95) and MAY lose your phone number.
