wish you lived in NC, I so would easily hand over a ton of paper, mom is under the impression that we need a bazzilion and two kinds of school stuff, she forgets we HE and that is way easier, cheaper, and no loss of stuff!
Anyway, around here it is announced in advance, and the state even has a tax free day. Sometime in August. Actually I live close to the border so we get to use the SC tax free day too if we wanted. |

Unless you actually know you have a need, I wouldn't go buy crazy. Last year I purchased a bunch of paper, pencils, etc. and then the school gave all that stuff out the first day of school. I spent about $10 I didn't need to.
Clothing I get at used-clothing stores like the Good Will. I also sell some of my kids used stuff on ebay, keep the money I make in the pay-pal account and use it to buy new clothes from other people on ebay. Basically trading last years still good clothing for this years sizes. I rarely buy new. Good luck! -Jean |

I'd b looking at thrift shops and garage sales and the like for backpacks you think the kids will like that you should be able to pick up now for a song. I think it's usually in July that Rite-Aid begins the Freebates on some school supplies, and that should continue on until Fall. Kmart and the office supply places around here often seem to have the best early deals if that helps. The greatest savings of all will, of course, be realized by the parents that have been give supply lists already. Might be worth calling the school and requesting them.. Good luck. That should be enough money for everything (except perhaps scientific calculators) with very careful shopping.

When I needed "school supplies" for when I was taking the CFA I went to a local asian dollar store. You have to be a little picky especially on pens but I got a ton of stuff including penciles, erasers, sharpeners all for a couple bucks.

I have started back to school shopping for donations. We have a few deperately poor school whose students rarely have enough of anything. Yesterdays store: Rite-Aid. Available for Free-Bate 16 count crayola crayons ($1), free after rebate. Primary colored school backpacks suitable for preschool-2nd grade or so without embarassment ($4), free after rebate. Also Post-it notes, more appropriate for middle- high school kids, ($1.50) free after rebate. Remember these rebates can be requested online, but only once a month. Get all the deals you are interested in before requesting your check. No charge for rebates works for me!

Ok, I guess I am answering my own question LOL but anyway just sharing. Here in Central florida my Super Walmart is just now getting stuff out and is on sale. I just got crayons for 10¢ ea, notebooks for 10¢ ea, mega pack of pencil topper erasers 40 ct for 97¢, packs of glue sticks with sample of that new squeeze paint brushes for 20¢ ea, colored pencils for 64¢, pack of 10 ct black pens for 38¢, 10ct classic markers for 50¢, and 4 oz bottles for school glue for 20¢ ea. So I spent about $5 so far I came up with I only need about $25 more and I am done
I am going to pick up some extra for the house while it is so cheap that way if they run out or if my youngest son and his little friend want to color I have plenty for them to work with ![]() |
