Okay, this is just kind of funny.
I got my 6 month raise yesterday. Are you ready for this? 16 cents an hour. Yep - you read that right. 16 cents an hour. I work 20 hrs a week, so that averages out to $3.20 a week. I told my DH, "Why waste the paper to give a raise like that?" His response... "It'll buy a case of beer a month!" Yeah - that's what I was worried about -- having extra money for beer. SIGH! -Jean I NEED AN ING REFERRAL!!! (2, ACTUALLY) |

When I was in college I worked for a National known clothing retailer store thing. Worked my butt off. Got a ten cent raise.

While I can sympathize with your displeasure--I also think it prudent to be thankful for any raise, regardless of amount, even if more is truly "justified". More importantly, to be grateful for what you have in life. There will always be someone worse off than you, an important aspect of life to remember. If you can be happy with what you have--that is true independence. . .and happiness.
Imagine if you were laid off for a period of two months and although you scoured every job opportunity that presented itself, nothing panned out. At the end of two months, your old job calls (paying the same wage you have now) and offers you your job back. What do you say? How do you feel? That said, congrats on the raise--and I hope that your next one is more to your liking. |

Ha. After re-reading my previous post it seems like it sounded. . . .brash. It was not intended to sound as such. I am glad that you count your blessings--many, many, many people I encounter on a daily basis have nothing to do but complain about their situation. . . .the post wasn't directed toward you directly but rather everyone (me included!) in general.
The case of beer comment made me laugh. ![]() God Bless. |

Join the club my raise this year was 10 cents an hour and that will be my annual maximum potential raise going forward. Unfortunately, you are going to have to get used to it as long as Chinese workers make 20 cents an hour.

I am sure frustrating but look at th positive side. You have been working there 6 months and how better your situation is than it was 6 months ago. |

And it's $83.20 in six months, so $83.20 more than you made in the last six months.
Congrats on the raise. And I agree, it is kinda funny (in a not quite funny way) when they give you a "raise" like that. ![]() |

Also, I really like what I do and I really like the people I work with. In a few years when my little ones are older and in school, I'll be looking for a much better paying job, believe me! Right now, these hours are really good for me. I just found the raise funny and perhaps a bit insulting . BTW - I got my 6 month appraisal and it was glowing. Hmmmm. 16cents is what you give to your really good employees who go "above and beyond" in their jobs. What do you give to those who just show up and do the basic job?My DH just got a raise -- it was 3%. I thought that was good okay. He is salaried and ends up working about 60 hours a week. At least he's getting something we can actually put in the budget to pay off some bills! ![]() |

I think I figured my raise was one-quarter of one percent (0.0025). -Jean |

I am guilty of complaining about my job and my raises. Now that I have read and seen the 10 cents and 14 cents raises, I feel fortunate to be where I am and for my current salary.
Yes, you are right, it could be worse. Today is the last day of complaining. Instead of spending energy feeling deprived, I will be happy for what I have and work towards what I want. Nicole =) |

I shall be Polly Anna here. Any raise is a good raise hun. Well done!
Think positively and place the extra dollars in your savings. Every little bit helps. |
