Default Online shopping beats the madness

My wife had the bizarre idea to go to Old Navy today because DD needed some jeans. She wasn't going to go before dawn or anything really crazy but was going to wait until later when the crowds died down. I told her to check online instead. Sure enough, they were having a one-day online sale. The jeans she wanted were only $15 (normally $25). For signing up for the site, she got a $10 off $50 purchase coupon and shipping is free for $50 and up. So she got 2 pairs for DD and 2 pairs for herself (she needed some also) for $50 delivered. Plus, we paid using a gift card bought through our synagogue's fundraising program so 14% ($7) gets donated to the synagogue in the process at no cost to us. We didn't have to drive, park, stand in line, sort through racks or even leave our house in the process.

Why does anyone go to the store anymore?

In my opinion there are only 2 reasons to buy from a store. To see the product in person and to get it right away.

Personally, I do all of my gift shopping (I only shop for my wife, she does the rest) online.

I go to the store to buy myself and husband clothes because shopping online can be difficult considering you can't try on any clothing to determine fit. It's one thing to buy a cheese grater online. It's an entirely different circumstance trying to determine if an article of clothing is going to fit.

For certain products such as clothing or personal items I do think that it's better to see it in hand. The photos seen online aren't always what they seem. When I know what the product is though I prefer to just click and buy.

I was exaggerating a bit. I know that buying clothes online is a challenge, with a few notable exceptions like zappos for shoes. This particular case was easy because she was ordering identical items to ones they already have. She knew exactly what style and size she needed. And if there is a problem, she can always return them to a local store, not have to ship them back.

I've found even the same clothes from the same company can fit differently, hence why I don't like buying clothes online. Love everything else.

That's true and we thought of that but we can always return them if necessary.

I don't know what I'd do without online shopping. It's a 2hr drive to a city I would consider to be good sized, but even if I lived in the city I would probably still shop online. Better deals and more chances to earn rewards. Our UPS driver joked with me one day after the stock market too a big dive. He said, "See what happens when you don't buy something." Between the baby supplies and other misc. purchases he seemed to come every day for quite some time.
