Default Amazon shipping costs

Hi everyone. I have a dilemma and I'm hoping someone can help me. My sister in law is having a baby. She found a crib on Amazon that she really wants. We want to get it for her but the shipping alone is 200$! I've tried to find this crib at various local (or even not so so local) stores but apparently it has been discontinued in the color she wants. So my question is, is there a web site or some other way of getting a "free shipping" code for amazon? I don't typically order things online, but I know I've heard people mention codes like this before.

Thanks as always in advance!

Have her sign up for Amazon Prime. You get free 2-day shipping on all orders. They offer a free one-month trial of the service and then it is $79/year after that.

Unfortunately, Amazon Prime does not apply to all merchants who sell on Amazon.

However, about Amazon Prime -- if you have a college student (who must use an .edu e-mail address), he can get six months of AP free! It used to be that AP would be free for several years as a college student, but Amazon has now reduced it to six months. After that time, the student can get a discount on it ($39 comes to mind, but I don't recall the exact amount.)

Could you give a URL or the name and model of the item?

I don't know how to find the URL number, but it's the Baby's Dream Serenity Crib in honey. I tried to look at the website it comes from (Baby Supermarket), but couldn't figure out how much shipping might be directly from that site.

Steve, I'd rather not ask her to sign up for anything and I don't sign up for things like that because I've had bad experiences with trying to un-sign for things, but thanks for the idea anyway!

A URL is the address of the internet page. It usually begins with www.

That way, I could see exactly what you're seeing. I'll do a quick web search and see what I find.

This must be the one:

Amazon.com: Baby's Dream Furniture Serenity Convertible Crib: Baby

$200 shipping, ouch. I looked on the furniture website, and it appears that they only sell through retailers.

Ok, I know I'm going to sound as tech challenged as I really am, but I went to that site. I tried to figure out how much shipping would be on that site and couldn't. Then I made an account and tried to add it to my cart to see if that would show me and it wouldn't let me add it. I finally gave up after some mumbling and grumbling. It's probably something simple, but for some reason my brain and tech-y things don't go together.

The very top of the page, in the middle, says FedEx free shipping for order over $100.

Darn, it says it's out of stock in the color she likes (honey) at that site. I guess since it's been discontinued in that color they sold the rest to Amazon.

Well, thank you so much for your help anyway. Too bad she didn't just like one at the local Babies R Us, it would have been so much less frustrating!

There's a site called dealcatcher, they have a lot of times deals and coupons for Amazon including free shipping offers, don't know what they have now, but it's worth to check it out.

There are other sites like Deal Catcher. I think Cheap Stingy Bargains might offer deals like that. I have seen online coupon codes for discounts on various websites (and sometimes on websites that have shipping charges) there.

I went to http://www.babysdream.com/ViewItem.aspx?pid=24 and while they don't have it in honey, they did have it in chestnut with free shipping to a store close by. Don't know if it helps, but its a lead!

I tried to sign up for dealcatcher and just started getting a bunch of emails for completely unrelated items being sold on Amazon, but not for the free shipping I thought I'd signed up for.

Unfortunately, she really wants the honey. At this point it looks like we're going to end up paying a huge amount to get what she wants. This baby really is a wonderful miracle though so if we're going to overspend, at least it's on a worthwhile new addition to the family.

Thanks for all the help anyway though. I'm so tech challenged. I think things that seem obvious to others for some reason don't make sense to me.

No worries, my wife was the same way when we had our son. She was going to get the furniture she wanted and that was it. They are little miracles aren't they!

Totally unrelated but Amazon is going to have shipping to 7-elevens and if that works, other places in order to help people who can't be home for deliveries.
