Default Shopping diet

i am not sure if this is the right forum to post in but here goes.

I'd like to increase our emergency funds and after that put more to investments. I mention when my daughter was extremely immune suppressed i could not go shopping and I noticed a big difference in our finances.

I admit, i love to shop. Reading disneysteve's post on shopping really made me think.

I am going on a shopping diet. Specifically I am not shopping for 30 days in an attempt to start new habits. I am going to have DH get the necessary grocieres at the store and that's it (DH is not a spender). When i go out i end up buying tons of crap for the kids.

So far I have made it 2 days as i started this experiment June 1st. So far with my extra time I have spent more quality time with my family, i have decluttered more and I have been able to do more productive and intense cleaning and straightening of the house.

I have to admit, this is hard. I miss Target. But I have a feeling I will see real results even in a short 30 period and i am hoping it will inspire me to continue.

Thanks for listening. Here goes day #3.

Good luck. Just resist the temptation to splurge at the end of the experiment.

definitely agree. if you can get used to not buying things on impulse, it will make it easier.

Once you finish your 'diet' (you've heard that crash diets never work long term, right? ), try setting yourself up on a cash-only spending allowance until you're better able to identify what you really need and don't need.

good luck!

Good luck, you can do it! I haven't been to a mall in 12 years!
