Not sure if many of you know, but a week or so ago the Playstation Network was hacked. This allowed whoever hacked it, to gain access to everyone's personal information stored on their accounts, such as credit card numbers. I do have my one and only credit card on there, but haven't received any false purchases show up.
Should I just go ahead and ask them to change the number for my account or something? If I do this, will it hurt my credit reputation that I have built up the past 7-8 years? What would you guys do? |

You can call your credit card company and have them reissue a new card due to the security breach and your concern about having your information stolen. It will in no way hurt your credit scores.

Having the company issue a new card will have no effect on your credit score. Go ahead and call them and request the change due to the theft.

I too would request a new card in order to prevent theft. This is a good idea even if you lose your card (as my sister did several months ago). I think her company also put a preventative "fraud alert" on her account.

It was a few days before my company reacted to the news, but from the time the news broke last week up to a day or two ago my dept was shutting cards down and reissuing new acct numbers left and right. EDIT: To add to that, yesterday I did get a slap on the hand for shutting a PS compromised card down at the customer's request . Last edited by Pansori : 05-04-2011 at 08:09 PM. |
