Default CC on Playstation account

Not sure if many of you know, but a week or so ago the Playstation Network was hacked. This allowed whoever hacked it, to gain access to everyone's personal information stored on their accounts, such as credit card numbers. I do have my one and only credit card on there, but haven't received any false purchases show up.

Should I just go ahead and ask them to change the number for my account or something? If I do this, will it hurt my credit reputation that I have built up the past 7-8 years? What would you guys do?

You can call your credit card company and have them reissue a new card due to the security breach and your concern about having your information stolen. It will in no way hurt your credit scores.

Having the company issue a new card will have no effect on your credit score. Go ahead and call them and request the change due to the theft.

I too would request a new card in order to prevent theft. This is a good idea even if you lose your card (as my sister did several months ago). I think her company also put a preventative "fraud alert" on her account.

My cc dept is no longer changing the account number at the member's request. If they are insistent and pushing I do, but a lot of reps where I work have put their foot down and said no. The higher ups have basically told us (credit and debit cards) to not cancel cards unless there is evidence of active fraud.

It was a few days before my company reacted to the news, but from the time the news broke last week up to a day or two ago my dept was shutting cards down and reissuing new acct numbers left and right.

EDIT: To add to that, yesterday I did get a slap on the hand for shutting a PS compromised card down at the customer's request .

Well I never got around to doing it yesterday, maybe I'll just call and give it a try tonight. If not, then I guess no big deal until fradulent charges start showing up. Then if for some reason, they try to get out of not paying them, I have proof with my phone call.
