The best money ever spent

Just wondered if anyone else had a favorite item.

I have a 20$ hair stick, that is a bit much on a stick but it is the BEST 20$ I ever spent, I have hair that I would sit on if left down (2 kids, I never do that!)

With the stick I have it out of my way in 1 minute if needed or I can spend 2 making it look 'fancy' bet I could learn mopre stuff if I wern't so lazy.

I also have a worst money ever spent, I bought some laundry baskets, I do use a couple but I have a stack in the garage, just sitting there, only cost a couple bucks but was a TOTAL waste and now I have to store them, cauue I feel to guilty to get rid of them yet. (YET, Im working on it)

Laundry baskets are great for gifts!! Recycle them. I sometimes use them full of baby items for a baby gift, or full of laundry or kitchen items for a bridal shower. If you get your items to fill it with from the dollar store, you can do quite well for about $20.
Each of my kids has a laundry basket in their room, either under the bed, or in the closet for their dirty clothes or stuffed animals. I also have one I keep outside toys and pool toys in. You can easily hose the toys off while in the basket before bringing the basket back inside, and they will drain well, but keep together.

No really, its a stick or wire, usually covered in fabric that you wrap and twist your hair around to keep it up out of the way.
I make my own-my dad was an electrician, so I have access to thick electrical wire. I cut about a 12 inch lenghth of it, wrap it in duck tape with just a little batting or old fabric around it. Then I sew a tube of fabric, and slide the wire into the fabric tube and stitch the end shut. You put the stick across your back, near the end of your hair, and wind it up. When it gets up by your head, twist the ends together (since its wire, it bends to any shape). During the summer I use ones made from terry cloth (old towels) and I have also use scraps of satin, silk or velour for a fancier hairdo. You can also use them like a headbank, and twist the ends up on top your head into a flower shape.

I have also made and sold these at craft shows. Takes about $1 or $2 to make, and you can sell them for around $15.00

That kind of stick is cool too but never stays in my hair.

My stick is just that, a wooden three prong stick.

They also make sets of two sticks, but I don't like them as much, kindof like pencils, never worked in my hair. but I could have made the pencils myself.

heh, now that is something else I could use! We all have long hair here, and there is always hair in the drain!

My travel trailer. I bought it used off of ebay for $6000. It was listed at $22,000 for a new one. It was 2 years old, but had only been pulled for less than 1000 miles. Inside is mint, outside has one small dent. Everything in it works. My daughters and I have had nothing but fun and memories -good quality family time in it. We have seen 17 states so far. Luckly last year was when we took our largest trip. Due to gas, this year we will be visiting our own state. We have even been known to sleep in it, in the driveway-just for the fun of doing it. Everyone is relaxed, the girls dont fight...Its like a different world. This will probably be our last year in it, as we need to get one with a different interior layout-the girls are getting too long for the beds. I know when I go to sell it or trade it, I will get more than my $6000 back. Which means, I have had it the last few years and used it for about free.

The hair thing in the drain reminded me of some of the best money I ever spent. My long hair is constantly collecting in the shower drain. I used to use commercial drain uncloggers (the chemical kind) and a drain snake, but neither of those worked very well. I found this thing at Walmart called a Zip-It, which is just a long plastic barbed strip that you stick down the drain. Man, it pulls everything out! The best $2.00 I ever spent.

I have a dress that has truly proven to be an investment. I bought it at 40% off at Express. It fits perfectly, doesn't wrinkle, it's comfortable...it's very traditional (it's 8 years old and people still comment "oh, that's a gorgeous dress, where'd you get it!!). It's navy, so I can use it anywhere....it's a classical LBD, only Navy instead of Black!!

Some of the best money I ever spent, in chronological order:

$5 - Radio Shack wallet-sized solar calculator. I bought it in 1995 and it has accompanied me to (so far) six countries on four continents; very handy for currency conversion!

$400 - Airline ticket to Santiago, Chile, where I lived for two years after college and learned to spread my wings

$500 - Adopting my dog, a (now) 10-year-old Akita named Andie

$700 - Airline ticket to New Zealand after separation from my first husband, plus the money I spent during my 3 months there -- the best way I could have wished for to start to a new life

$49.95 - Udate.com membership, where I met my husband

$1000+ - US immigration fees to get my husband here from the UK, including the original visa, adjustment to permanent residency and (in 2007) his application to become a dual US/UK citizen

The best money ever spent would have to be the $1600 (purchase price) for a 1988 volvo station wagon with 190k miles on it, this was about 2.5 yrs ago. At the time I thought we were making a bad decision buying a car with that many miles on it but the wife insisted that she likes dorky wagons...not only did it turn out to be reliable but also an extremely practical gas saver. We've loaded it up to the gills on our Home Depot trips many times and it still gave us 22mpg. We took it down to Baja, Mexico in the no man's land and it never complained about the 2 day 700 mile trip. At 240k miles on it its still running well.

The most beneficial part of the ownership has been the huge improvement in my knowledge of working on cars. I'm not afraid to tear into it when needed. In fact, now after 2.5 yrs of wrenching on the volvo I'm not afraid to work on our other complex/expensive cars either...


Now watch it self destruct when I go outside to give it a pat...
