Post How are you coping with rising gas prices?

I paid $3.72 a gallon today for about half a tank of gas in my old Honda Accord, trying to save money before prices are going up even higher this week. We all know rising prices are inevitable when it comes to regular unleaded gasoline. I believe we will hit $4.00 per gallon within one to two weeks. Only less than two weeks ago, I paid $3.34/gallon, so prices here in my part of the Western U.S. have increased by over forty cents per gallon, in the space of only a week to a week and a half.

How are you coping with rising gas prices? I am driving much less, staying home up to five days at a time (as I did last week) on "no-drive days", in order to save about $20 per week. This helps a lot. I am a homemaker currently, so not everyone can do this if they work full-time. However, anyone can try to do what I do, and combine trips for say groceries and a prescription, in order to avoid having to drive any extra distance to take care of multiple errands.

Are you biking? Trading in your gas guzzler for a more fuel-efficient car? Perhaps boycotting the gas stations all together? Would be curious to share ideas on how to save on fuel with others, and find out what you are paying in your part of the world for regular unleaded gas.

I haven't really changed my habits yet. I still have to drive the girls to school each day. I definitely try to combine errands. Those in the workforce or driving kids to school could consider carpooling as a way to cut down on fuel.

I paid for $3.53/gallon today for unleaded gas.

No changes here. Just spending more.

Regular unleaded is around $3.30 where I go.

I don't have a work commute to deal with so no issue there but the prices are getting my attention. It was 3.54 today and I'm sure it's going up. I'm definitely more attentive of where I'm driving to and I have heating oil bills(goes up just like gas) as well that are like having yet another "gas guzzler" to feed.

I have a daily round trip 110 mi commute to work. On the other hand my non-hybrid car gets around 40-45 mpg depending on the weather so...can't really complain. Gas was $3.35 on Friday where I live.

Living with it. Sure, it'd be nice to have cheaper gas, but I only fill up every 3 weeks or so, and besides... I'm consuming a commodity, which comes with a price--just like wheat, corn, rice, fruit, and everything else.

No change in habits here. I just pay more at the pump. I fill up about once a week for my commute to/from work and travel in between.

Our gas prices have gone down lately to around $3.49, that isn't to bad. I mean it was over $4.00 a few years ago.

buckle up because everythings gonna get more expensive. gas is supposed to hit $5 by summer, that will cause the truckers to stop making runs in turn skyrocketing prices. ive been retired for 2 years now and can make a tank of gas last 2 months.

In my part of California gas has been hovering in the $3.95-$4.00 range for the last few weeks. Unfortunately for me I have about a 65 mile round trip commute for work. But a few weeks ago we were lucky enough to be given a 2001 Kia Sephia as a early wedding present. I'm saving about $18-$20 every time I fill up my take now compared to my Ford Ranger. And I have to fill up about every 4-5 days.

Not quite as bad as when it was $4.50 back in 2008. Back then I was driving a Jeep Wrangler that got about 15 mpg. I was also going to school every day and having to commute about 32 miles round trip. I quickly decided to buy a puss pass. $30 a month for unlimited rides.

1. I buy gas at Daily's where I earn rewards points and I also use my Shell Saver Card which saves me $.10 per gallon through 4/30/11 and $.02 per gallon after that.

2. I drive more efficiently; less acceleration, less braking, less speeding.

3. I try to run errands in the morning, before work, as traffic is not as bad.

4. I walk to stores that are close to where I live as opposed to driving.

We shop at Rainbow Foods where you earn money off your Roundy's card for buying groceries. It's something like .10 to .20 off per gallon. Plus if you use cash the gas station down the block will give you 5 cents off per gallon.

It was interesting to read all of your responses.

Gas seems to be higher on the West Coast where I live than on the East Coast and in the Mid-West, as you guys are reporting.

I had to add this: my younger sister found gas this past weekend for $3.99. Scary. This was in a small town she does not live in, but was passing through. Expect gas about $3.80 by end of day today here.

Can't the gov't offer gas rebates on our tax returns??! Lol There's a novel idea!

No changes here. It just costs more to fill up.
