I am in Wal-mart today, Their cashiers are being trained to ask anyone going thru the line if they would like to apply for a credit card. Then do the electronic app. right then and there. I told the cashier that was tacky and to tell the mgr. that it was a pain to wait for someone to do app when there is a line.

All shops seem to be doing similar things now - asking every customer if they want this or that. The customers find it annoying, the shop assistants find it annoying, but the management don't care about that as long as they are making the money.

Remember when Wal-mart did away with lay-a-way to offer credit cards...as annoying as it is, Wal-Mart is smart in finding a way to make yet another buck.

That's Wal-Mart.
Who would announce all their personal information in a line full of strangers? Probably doesn't matter anyways - that data being keyed in is probably instantly transferred to data centers in India or god knows where they can do all this for slave wages. So you can turn this into a fun activity. Just repeat loudly the person's address, social security number and phone number as they give it to the cashier. You could even write this stuff down as you go. Another fun thing to do would be to leave your cart full of stuff you want to buy just right there and go home - but voice your righteous indignation as you head out the door. Good times! |

Business have to find ways to continually make money, grow the business and so forth. But, if enough people complained, then they might decide it is more of an inconvencience to their custormers and have them fill out the app at customer service.
BTW, if you are going to complain, seek out the store manager and do so directly instead of venting to the employees. THe employees are unlikely to say anything and it isn't going to have as much impact coming from them as from you directly. If I have a point to make, I always find the manager. |

They HAVE to ask, it's mandatory. If a secret shopper comes through and they DON'T ask the employee will possibly end up with disiplinary action, sad but true. The same if management iis in the area and doesn't hear them ask. They also are pushed for "sales" of these cards with charts, etc.

Phone the store manager, tell him your grievance, tell him your desired outcome/resolution and explain that you are e-mailing this to corporate head office. Their corporate number for complaints is 1-800-925-6278.
