Default We have to take a vacation - darn (LOL)

In the past week, I've gotten 2 e-mails from different hotel chains whose rewards programs I belong to. Both were reminding me that I had free night credit on my account that I have to use. We have one free night that expires the end of November. I don't think the points for the other chain expire but I have to check. I also have one other free night certificate for a third chain that also expires in November. I need to speak to my wife and figure out when we are free to do some overnight get-away trips in the next 2 months so these certificates don't go to waste. I'm sure we won't have any trouble using them. We are perfectly happy to spend the night at a hotel in our own town or someplace nearby just to get out of the house and relax for an evening, take a swim, go out to dinner, etc. Since the hotels will be free, why not take advantage of it.

I think that's a great idea. It's good to get away from the house and those small vacations are great.

We are taking what they call a last call vacation that is very reasonable and close to home. Just to get away. Have fun.

There is actually a Marriott nearby that was renovated not too long ago and they built an indoor waterpark with it. My daughter has been asking to go there so we may do a night there with our Marriott certificate. We'd have to buy the waterpark passes but at least the hotel would be free.

I'd do this even if the hotel was in shouting distance

The neat thing about these days or weekends is that no one is going to stop in unexpected and you only have to answer the important calls. It gets us all away from the tech jungle if only for a while and on a limited basis. You also don't have to watch the clocks.

We agree completely. One time, we stayed at a hotel a few miles away. I didn't like the pillow so I drove home and got mine.

disneysteve,
Your thread reminded me that we had a certificate for 1 night in a cat1-4 Marriott hotel that was due to expire in 3 months--sooo I scheduled a weekend on Long Island.

This past weekend, we flew up to Long Island and used our free night at the Marriott Islandia. We did a little shopping and a little sight-seeing (went out to Montauk and climbed the lighthouse, saw TRs Sagamore Hill) and we relaxed a little bit. It was a little cold (and on Sunday a little cold and rainy), but it was a lot of fun.

Where did you decide to go with your certificates?

Sounds good, L2P. Glad you had a good time.

We actually haven't done anything yet. We haven't had any free time plus my wife developed some medical issues. She's having surgery on Friday. We're hoping that in a couple of weeks, she'll be up to doing something and we can at least get away overnight somewhere nearby.

Oops. . .edited out my "Dirty mind" post on taking your wife to a hotel.

Hope her surgery was routine and free of complications.
