Question Shopping for Insurance

I definitely need to shop around our insurance - home, auto, umbrella (haven't done it in a long time!). Are there any places I should or should not check out? TIA.

I use USAA myself and love it, but if you don't qualify for membership, I've had friends recently recommend Liberty Mutual to me. Apparently they now do home and auto insurance as well (until just recently I thought they were only life insurance), and my friend told me that they found the best home/auto insurance rates with Liberty Mutual.

I have Liberty Mutual and do have to say they have been good so far. My agent is great and very easy to deal with. So far I just had a glass claim for fixing a cracked windshield and things went well. Let's hope is as good in the future. They do Auto/Home/Life and I happen to have them for all three.

Though I do believe in diversification so my spouse's life insurance policy is with a different company, Fidelity Investments Life which is a good company.

TIAA-CREF and MetLife are also a great life insurance companies. MetLife does auto as well. Amica Mutual is also highly rated for auto.

Just keep in mind when you pick a company like TIAA-CREF which is rated A++ by AM-Best the premiums will be higher than Fidelity which is rated at A+ or Liberty Mutual which is rated at A. Same goes for auto, the higher rated companies can charge higher rates because they are deemed to be more stable. Price is a big factor in insurance but be sure you are comfortable with the company you are buying from. I pay a little more with Liberty Mutual for auto than some others, but is only about $30/year and I like their service better so far.
