Default Substitutions?

What are some of the things you use for substitutions?

-I use Suave bought on sale with doubled coupon, so Free to fill up my softsoap containers.

- I use liquid fabric softener on a dried sponge when I use my dryer.

What " thinking outside the box ideas" do you use?

I don't buy windex or regular glass window cleaners. Instead, I get the automotive window cleaner--88 cents a gallon at walmart. i use it for all my glass cleaning needs-lot cheaper than the $3 a bottle for windex.

You can use transmission fluid for power steering fluid. It is the same but is cheaper if you buy it as transmission fluid.

This isn't quite a substitution but...

When I make tea (a pitcher of iced tea) I don't use the family size bags. I use the smaller bags (4 usually) and brew half a pot then rebrew the bags again. It makes the tea just as strong and uses less than half the tea bags it says.

I substitute newspaper & water for paper towels & window cleaner to clean windows.

I use diluted bleach to clean & remove mildew in place of the mildew remover stuff.

I use 2/3 c oil & 1/3 c liquid lethicin in place of Pam.

I use powder milk in baking instead of fresh milk.

I'm using up my pickle salt in place of table salt until it's

I prefer to use coco & oil in place of baking chocolate. It's cheaper.

I use cottage cheese instead of ricotta.

In potato salad, I use dill pickle juice instead of vinegar.

I forgot this was here, & started one on the frugal thread. Sorry!

Instead of putting plastic wrap or aluminum foil over a container that doesn't have a lid, I use a plate. I also use a plate over the container in the microwave even if I have a lid because the lids don't seem to hold up in the microwave.
