Cloth diapers are environmentally friendly -- would you be willing to use reusable toilet paper cloth wipes or is that still too extreme when it comes to saving money?

If I had no money i would be willing ;-)
we us no other paper products at all but since my kids are waaaaay out of diapers and since I do all the laundry I do not care to deal with other people crap ;-) I am only willing to wash crap out of your stuff if you are under age 2 or are so sick with the flue I think you might die |

OMG! I forwarded the link to my husband. I thought the guy was going to get whiplash turning around and looking at me. He gave me a dirty look and started blathering on about how much toilet paper we really use and so on and so forth. I knew he would have a "hell no!!" opinion about it. It was great for a good giggle!

I think I would "pilfer" napkins at fastfood joints before I did that. ok just kidding, but seriously, no, I would not be down with washing cloth as tp.
I want to keep my marriage at least a little sexy if you know what I mean. I make a conscious effort to not use more tp than needed however. |

How about the next best thing? TP from recycled paper

Yikes!
In my case I can't see this as saving money. I would use at least a half gallon of bleach, gloves and detergent. Plus the endless flow of water rinsing it out. Then there's the meds for my upset stomach after vomiting during the traumatic ordeal. Then there would be the family breakdown as I would be angry and resentful everytime anyone in the house dropped some kids off at the pool. I would risk a paper cut from the sears catalog pages before I would ever be able to use a cloth TP over and over again. |

if you chose to go this way I guess you would have to have a diaper pail in the bathroom;-)
and for god sakes you would have to provide TP for you guests, unless your intent is to run people off you would have to be very clean people as well, most of my friends and family cannot seem to manage their regular laundry ,thats before adding something like this to the mix I am not opposed to people doing this and like many thing would seem odd,but I am pretty sure people have been around longer than toilet paper, but since it has been invented I ill continue to use it ;-) |

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. We used cloth diapers and people who never tried them make them out to be about 1000 times the hassle (& smell) they really are. We got so many ignorant comments. (It was even worse because we used a diaper service - so we didn't have to deal with any of the cleaning or anything. We literally set them out on the front porch to be picked up and replaced with clean diapers one a week - was easier than disposables if you ask me).
I am all for reusable toilet paper. Probably would keep the paper toilet paper out for guests and stuff. But it does absolutely amaze me how wasteful our society is. I would be willing to wash ourselves. I mean what do you do but throw it in the wash anyway? It's not like we are washing our laundry by hand in this day and age. We washed our fair share of poopy clothes and diaper covers when our kids were little. Plus seriously, cloth is a much more pleasant experience all around, than any paper. I'd take a reusable cloth any day over newspaper. ETA: We have always used cloth instead of napkins and paper towels - not a big deal. Last edited by MonkeyMama : 03-02-2009 at 11:27 AM. |
