Question Mint.com- good idea or not??

Someone recommended mint.com to me. Apparently, you enter all of your information, and it updates daily. It then categorizes your spending. You can see how your balances look, all in one place.
This sounds great to me. In fact, it seems too good to be true. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Many people here use Mint or other systems that are similar. It takes some time to set up, but I think the majority of folks like it.

Use it; love it.

Works great for me, but my finances are fairly simple. It's not an extremely powerful tool (less features and options than Quicken or Money), but for me it is a great way to get a the RIGHT information (not just lots of information) very quickly.

The reason I don't use it is because you can't accrue money. It's either spent that month or it's not. What about the bills that occur every 6 months or once a year? We also do allowances and it doesn't work for that since one month I might only spend 50% of my allowance, but the next month it doesn't account that I have 150% of my normal allowance to spend.

I like to keep track of every penny and move exactly what I don't spend to checking unless it's an accrual account - like drycleaning or tolls which are not paid on a set schedule.

If you don't have a budget setup already or special needs like I have, it should work great for you. I found it to classify things more accurately than quicken or money - but the last time I used those programs was a few years ago so they may be better now.

I use Yodlee instead of Mint. I tried them both, but Yodlee better suited my needs.

I can't post links yet, but Google 'Yodlee' to find the site.

Use it... love it. I use it to record transactions then build my own reports by exporting into excel and adjusting anthing unusual.
