What should I do with a found gift card? I was walking to the store and found a gift card in the street. There are no real businesses around there so I don't know how it got there exactly. my question is, what should I do with it? Should I take it to the police? Should I just throw it away? Should I call the number on the back to see if there is still money on it? For all I know, it could be expired or have no money left on it, but it also could have money still on it. What should I do in this situation?

I'd investigate its value first. Chances are its probably no good, therefore someone who doesn't know where a trash can is, made his/her own. If there is value on it, I would turn it in the the store/back to the issuing company.

Another suggestion:
If there is a value on the card, why not find a charity organizationa and donate the card to them? The store/merchant has already received the monetary value so they aren't going to lose anything. There's really no way for the police or anyone else to determine who owns it. Just a thought. |
