Default Will she live in a shoe?

ABC news reports the woman who had the octuplets (bringing her total to 14)
that the medical bill is at $700k and will top out over $1 million. Somehow the state gets stuck with the bill. Funny how if I have a bill with a hospital they can take my property or wages....but I digress....

She gets $1900 welfare for the first 6 kids plus $490 a month in food stamps. These numbers will surely climb once she applies for the new kids.

Granted, she's not going to get rich on welfare with 14 mouths to feed.

But she probably will get a movie or book deal. That probably would end her welfare payments, but I don't know.

So the question is,

Should the state recover money if she makes it big in hollywood?

Should somebody go to jail over this, or loose their medical license?

Is this whole thing immoral? Immoral in regards to subjecting kids to this situation, or to the taxpayers who may be burdened with it?

Or is it a blessing and just fine and dandy? Who cares about money when there are cute little babies?

My crystal ball:

She will find a way to continue to receive benefits after she makes the big bucks on the talkshow circuits and with all her other potential income sources.

The state will probably end up having to take the babies and farm them out to foster care anyway-how is one person really going to be able to give decent care to 14 kids under the age of 7 (don't daycare centers have laws on how many adults per kid?).

Someone should, at the very very least, lose their medical license.

Totally immoral, in my opinion. Oh, and in addition to her welfare, chick is already on disability for a "debilitating back injury" received at some state job she had years ago.

Personally, I'm still shocked by it and trying to digest it.

I think that subjecting children to poverty is VERY immoral.

That leads to the dilemna - cutting off welfare doesn't hurt the parents who made the poor choices - it hurts the kids of course.

Whenever I hear this story it leaves me speechless beyond belief. That this was allowed to occur is incredible. She is obviously not mentally stable. Great thing for a broke state to fund.

I think she should get a very limited amount of time to prove she can care for them on her own, if she cannot without government assistance, they should be adopted out. 6 months tops.

Probably child protective services will be watching closely because of the noteriety. But they will be looking at providing care and safety, not if she has money.

I'm sure she will get alot of donations plus a hollywood movie check. Surely a book deal.

Thinking about it, she has been kinda stupid about giving so much away - the talk show interviews, not selling the first pictures. Couldn't she have gotten Brad and Angelina type money from US Weekly? Homegirl needs an agent!

She should put them all up for adoption. She is a complete loon!!! The doctor that provided in vitro fertilization should be banned to practice medicine. Well I guess Californians and their retarded politicians will be happy to know that they will foot the bill. LOL.......CA=state of entitlement programs=FTL.

Great thought Maat. Won't happen though. I can't begin to imagine any couple attempting to care for 14 kids under 7 yrs old much less a delutional single mother. Cali will be paying for this for a long time and they don't have the money to pay for it.

I'm talking about adopting to multiple families. There are families that will take them separatly, tax dollars should be the very last resort. People need to get real about responsibility, the government is not our caretaker.

Hopefully something like that happens but will if have to become a situation where she clearly demonstrates an inabilty to care for these kids( a likely scenario). Will these children be subjected to a huge amount of unintended neglect(a likely scenario). It will take very good hearted people to adopt them. As I understand it three of them ( she already has) have some type of disability that she gets state assistance for. The Frankenstein that implanted her should be have his license revoked and go to jail.

Personally, I think the doctor should suffer some consequences for this. 8 babies isn't a pregnancy...it's a litter! Why would he agree to implant that many?

I agree that she'll be under a good bit of scrutiny, but only time will tell what will happen to the kids. I feel bad for them...

Think about it, how many people would it take non stop to care for that many children? I feel sorry for the first six, let alone the eight.

It would take steady private donations and volunteers for her to keep this litter.

I believe she went to mexico, so it's a moot point. I wonder how many more she'll have?

And how will they prove she can't care for children? In this country we "protect" the parents not kids.

I, too, am stunned by what little I have heard about this situation.
I have no idea how she will care for all those children. How do two parents with high order births? It seems like there is tons of help from the community and there are donations. But, my impression from what I've read of accounts of most parents of high order multiples is they would rather not be in the situation where their kids had so much public exposure and public interest (and pubic opinion about how to raise them ).

I hope the babies will be healthy and everything will turn out okay for them. It seems like the Mom has lied about several things, so I'm not sure what is true. She said that 6 embryos were implanted. If so, then, she must have two sets of identifcal twins in the bunch.

News accounts put the babies birth at only 9 weeks premature which is amazing in itself and speaks very highly of the prenatal care she was given. The birth weight of the babies was between 1 pound, 8 ounces, and 3 pounds, 4 ounces --which is pretty good considering the number of kids she was carrying. Hopefully, the babies will be okay long term.

Public opinion definately is not with the Mom. But, the babies are here and they have to be cared for. The suggestion of govt intervention (and terminating parental rights) does make me queasy. I'm thinking of the Dionne quintuplets. The family was poor, so the state took custody of the children to "protect them" and to see to their best interests. They set up "Quintland" and put the children on display and charged admission...

I have one child due, waited after 8 years of marriage and feel 99% sure I am done after this. I can't fathom wanting that many kids.

Who cares, but it is a shame? She will be loaded with a realty show etc which people are hoping does not happen, but let her earn some money. I do not find the whole thing very interesting. So she has a uterus. lol.
I am sure we will hear about those poor innocent children for years.

A lot of what goes in with fertility treatments makes me uneasy. HEaven forbid if I had a son who was donating his sperm with my genes in it for this kind of stuff. I digress..lol.

While I love children myself, I think there is a reason why God tends to hand you only one or two at a time.

The inherent danger to the babies should have stopped a Dr from implanting so many regardless of what the mom asked. (or her financial state)

As to the future, the libertarian in me says let em sink or swim and hang the consequences, the mother in me would fully support the children in any way possible, and being ripped from each other would not be in their best interest . So it is a no win situation.

She'll get a Discovery Health show and move into a brand new house.

I don't like that someone implanted 8, but once they were implanted, I don't think they should have been aborted. I don't like the idea that the government could tell her she has to be sterilized or that she can't have any more kids, but I do think that CPS should keep a very close eye on the situation and be prepared to move if they find anything out of the ordinary.
