Default How much to pay for private tutoring

My almost 7 yr old son has autism and we had in home help for 2 hour a week reinforcing what they did in school. However that will be ending in the spring. I want to continue to pay a teacher or a teacher's assistant (or even a college student specializing in education)

What is the going rate for in house tutoring? My son works much better with someone else working with him than me or I would do more hours of it myself.

My son had a math tutor and she charged $60 an hour. She gave us a break because we are friends and we paid $30.00.

It depends...

I have worked for agencies that assist people with disabilities and that includes tutoring, teaching them how to cook and various other activities, start a home business and etc for various age ranges.

The going rate for those that do these jobs at non-profit agencies is usually starting around 11 dollars (This is in HCOL area like California). It’s a little higher than minimum wage to draw in more skilled employees. Agencies are usually short on funds and have a tighter budget to deal with. A suggestion is to look up any non-profit community service agencies that provide services to those with disability that might be available in your area. Sometimes you can work out a deal with them and/or also get state assistance program to help pay for this.

If you are looking for a teacher who wants to do this outside of his/her teaching job or a therapist that specialized in this field, I would think it would have to be a lot more than 11 dollars but that is just a guess. It might be less for a college student who is perusing a related field.

I should also mention that my son is Autistic as well (Aspergers Syndrome) and he is authorized a PASS worker (Personal Assistant Support & Services) through the Katie Beckett program (medicaid) in RI. They get paid $9-12 an hour.

I worked in the home office of a big national tutoring agency. Don't use an agency!! The tutor is paid $15-20 an hour, and the middleman who hires the tutors pay themselves $10-$15 an hour...then they pay the national agency a cut...charging you $30-50 an hour!

Teachers will likely already have a going rate that they charge. If you call your childs teacher asking if they tutor or can refer you to one...they will be able to tell you their rate. Obviously rate depends on the location...but do not use Huntington, Club Z or any other advertising tutoring company...because you are mostly paying the middleman. And they hold you to contracts.

My friend was an autism "tutor" (not sure what her title was). She charged $20 per hour.

I am a math tutor and charge $25 - $30, depending on the subject.

I am a former math teacher with an M.S. in math. I charge $25 an hour.
Granted, that's not exactly what you are looking for, but I thought I would add it to give you an idea of what other tutors charge.

Try asking the current tutor, if you like em what they would charge.

Also oddly enough if you can find the right Aspergers adult, often they are very good with Aspergers kids. (have a couple friends adult and child)
Kinda depends on the specific Aspergers symptoms.
