Default Future investment via military

Hey everyone, my name is Shawn and I'm from California. I wasn't particularly sure as to where I should start, but I'll see what I can do. I graduated high school a year early to leave for the Army, after going through the first 4 months of training I was medically separated for Scoliosis. I have to wait an additional 7 months before I can reenlist. The situation I'm in now goes somewhat like this: I don't have a car, but I am working two part-time jobs to make minimum payments, and I am about to become a full-time college student. I will not be receiving any grants or tuition for the college because I'm late to registering, only an entrance waiver to waive my class fees.

I was thinking ahead as well, I'm not too sure how to go about the car, I would like to get a used one for a good price, maybe something local like Craigslist where I do not need to aquire a loan as I do not have a credit score, or even much for a down payment. Also, I'm trying to think ahead in regards to when I go back to the military. If you had the opportunity, what would you do with the money you were making while on active duty that you didn't have to spend? Buy a house and rent it out while you're gone? Invest it? Put it all into a savings account?

To sum this all up, I'll leave it that I'm trying to get a car situated for work and school given my circumstances, and get something setup for when I leave for the military again. I should hope to have some money saved up by the time I leave, I'm really not much of a spender.

I appreciate your time, Shawn
