Default Diminished value claims

I was involved in a hit & run accident, and my insurance is making the repairs under my uninsured motorist policy. The insurance said I may be eligible for a diminished value claim. Anyone ever deal with this before? There are quite a few companies/services to help with this. If I can do it myself, I'd like to. I assume these companies charge to help you.

I found that only three states require insurance companies to pay out diminished value to their own insured. Kansas, North Carolina and Georgia. Here is a site for a free quote.
