Some folks for longer the local paper said. Geez, it must be so hard getting laid off and collesting full UAW pay and benefits for a month or more. Some of the folks I know are taking tropical expensive vacations during this time, and were already laid off. (I live in MI)
I respect the UAW and I do not want to be a hater. I just get, ok, I admit it, kind of perturbed about the constant layoffs with pay. I have a college degree and have worked for less than half thier pay over the years. Last edited by Goldy1 : 12-18-2008 at 08:35 PM. |

Sorry, but if you are getting full pay and benefits, you aren't laid off. You are on a paid vacation. They really shouldn't call that a lay off. I think lots of folks who are actually laid off and struggling to get by with no income would find that offensive.

yes, the following is from an article online
"In most cases, GM workers end up in the jobs bank after 48 weeks in "layoff status" -- which entitles them to government unemployment benefits and a supplemental payout from the automaker that brings the total payment to 95 percent of their take-home pay. The workers then move into the jobs bank, which entitles them to their full gross pay. In some cases, workers go directly into the program and in all cases, the workers can stay in the jobs bank until they are eligible to retire or be placed in another job. " |

Yes, I just read the same thing, they can get 95% of their pay for years. I want a job there too!

Yep. Not too hard to figure out when a company pays people NOT to work for months at a time.

I wonder under their UAW contracts if they also eligible for Unemployment Insurance even after receiving 95% of their pay/benefits.
