It must be nice to be rich

I had this comment thrown at me the other day because DH and I were able to go to a nice bed and breakfast along the sea coast that we had been saving for for the last 6 months for 3 days.

In order to make this happen, we made sacrifices in a lot of other areas and worked hard to save that money. But what really irked me about the comment is it came from someone whose income is more than two times our income.

I think I would have immediately responded with, "actually we aren't rich at all. we've been saving our butts off for this trip for the past six months." and if I was feeling particularly nasty, I might have added "AND, you make twice as much as we do, so that is ridiculous!"

try not to worry about it. they are probably worried because they are deep in debt and just now freaking out about it. enjoy your much-deserved vacation!

Sorry you had that experience, it sucks and irritates no matter the reason for their rudeness.

I usually get that in reference to me staying home, though the cost of me working would be way more than I am worth. And my DH makes way less than most of them.

People make all kinds of stupid comments because of their ignorance! Don't let it bother you. We can't control what others say but we can certainly control our reaction to it. Take it with a grain of salt!

By the way, I am RICH! I have a wonderful husband, 2 fantastic sons and DIL's and great friends who I love dearly. And enough money in retirement to enjoy ourselves and still give and help others. So I feel very RICH!

Aaaay but you are rich in love. That is what hubby and I always say to each. Rich can mean a lot of more than financial stuff.

I hate people who assume things about your financial status...being middle class is difficult, some people snub you because you can't afford - or won't charge- the things they do...and, some others are envious of what you have...

Rich is a state of mind. These people who made this comment obviously aren't feeling rich (monetarily or otherwise), even though they make more than you do, so pity them.
