Default Wii Fit - Fun and cheaper than a gym

We got Wii Fit yesterday. That is a "game" for the Wii video game system. I put game in quotes because it is really a video workout. It has yoga, aerobics, balance and strength training exercises. We just got it yesterday so I haven't fully explored all it offers but I can tell you that it is no joke. You do exercise. You do work up a sweat. And if you aren't careful, you could hurt yourself.

If you already have a Wii and are looking to get in better shape, this is a great option. For $90, it is far cheaper than joining a gym, especially since 3 of us will be using it. Even if you don't have Wii, spending the $250 for the unit could still have you come out ahead over other more costly exercise options, especially if multiple family members will use it to work out.

I was sore when we first got the Wii. Baseball is rough. I didn't care for the tennis so didn't play that much. I had to limit the bowling, too, or else I felt it later.

I think this is a great way to get everybody off the sofa.

Glad to hear you like it! We've thought about getting the Wii Fit, but just haven't jumped on it yet. We do have a Wii already. My problem is that I'm just not sure I would be committed to using it!

Funny story: My neighbor "Sarah" has a friend "James" who has Wii Fit. James is a bit overweight and got it to improve his health and have fun. Well Sarah tried it out one day and now when James uses it, the Wii Fit always asks about Sarah and how Sarah is doing. I guess James was screaming at it because he wanted to work out, not talk about Sarah!

Yes, it does talk to you that way.

We just got it yesterday, so we'll see if the novelty wears off, but I like the way it scores you and tracks your progress. I'm the type of person that wants to keep improving my scores so I think I'll stick with it. My wife and I do walk every night and DD and I bike, but as we get into winter, I think the Wii will come in handy to keep active during the bad weather.

Let us know in a month if you're still using it. As is for most people, their wii fit is already collecting dust in the corner somewhere in their home.

Apparently these things are difficult to find in stores? A couple of my friends seemed to have more fun shopping for one than actually using it. After 2 weeks it was getting next to no use.

I hope you get your money's worth.

I have been looking for a wii Fit since it came out, they are all but impossible to find here. So were wii's but I lucked out last Christmas and got the last one in a shipment of 12.

Guess I will just keep looking.

I'm not exactly sure how long we've had the Wii but we continue to play Wii Sports regularly. That isn't quite as physical but you can still work up a sweat playing those games. I'm sure we won't all use this daily but it is fun. I'll post again in a few weeks with an update.

We were planning to buy one and just happened to spy two in the case at Walmart. The clerk said they had just come in and would be gone quickly. If we wanted one we should grab it. I think you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

It is nice to see something like that in such demand compared to some shoot-em up, blow-em up video game.

Yes, lack of use worries me the most! We don't even use the Wii and that's why I'm so concerned. I packed it up to take on vacation a month ago and still haven't even unpacked it!! So I am VERY hesitant to shell out the money for the Wii Fit.

Yes, please do update us in a few weeks.

I'll tell you this. We have a treadmill in the basement. I go through phases with it. Sometimes, I use it weekly for months at a time. Other times, I fall off the wagon and don't use it for a few months. But I always know it is there and I always get back to it eventually. We've had it for about 8 years, I think, and I've logged hundreds of miles on it, even if I haven't always been consistent in using it. I figure the Wii Fit may be the same way, though having it staring at us every time we watch TV may be a little more of a reminder.

lol.... One of the reasons we don't have a treadmill is the same reason we don't have a Wii Fit!

We really want a treadmill, but just have no space for one in our condo. I think we could find space for a Wii Fit though. Still no rush on that for us.

I'm guessing the Wii Fit will not allow me to do squats and deadlifts, right?

Actually, I believe squats are one of the strength-training excercises. Of course, no weights are involved. I haven't gone through the strength-training things yet so I'm not sure what they all are.

Interesting. . . let me know if you decide to give it a try. I'm not a gym rat or anything, but I definitley need a bit more weight than soup cans or text books.

I am actually debating trying to get it as a combined Christmas for husband and I...see I really don't like video games, but many times in winter after diner we settle into a family fun night, movies and games are great, but none are as active as a wii might be...and the daily kick the kids outside tends to slow down....

BUT...I am not to sure I want the clutter or the temptation for husband and in laws to find us junky shoot em games.....

Wii Fit - Day 3

After we returned from our nightly walk, I did a total of 6 minutes on the Wii. I did one yoga pose (that I still suck at on my left leg, okay on my right), 2 aerobics exercises (hula hoop and step) and 2 balance games (soccer ball and ski slalom). It was the first time I did hula hoop and I did very well. I got my high score on soccer and slalom. I didn't do any strength training today.

I thought it was odd when I heard about it but it is fun to actually do.

I'm going to start tracking my exercise and Wii use on my blog so people can see if I'm sticking with it.

I think this is a great idea. Wii is such an active on your feet system...whoever came up with this idea is a genius.
