I'm trying to cut costs...man is it hard! Is it ok if I don't include wedding favors? I wanted to make a modest donation to my local SPCA instead..

It's either that or favors that I think people will probably leave behind...

"favors"? i can't even begin to imagine what those might be, and i've been to dozens of weddings.....
Personally, I think you'd be just fine without them. I've never heard of anyone expecting a take-away from anybody's wedding.

We put CDs at everyone's seat. I am probably the only one which still listens to it- I have had the CD in my car changer since I got back from the honeymoon- no exceptions. Going on 7 years of marriage in august.

I will be highly offended if I get no favor. That settles it. I'm not coming.
Seriously, no reason you have to give out favors. If, however, you want to do something without it being costly, favors can be as simple as a little toile sack of M&M's tied with a ribbon and placed at each place setting. It doesn't have to be something fancy or expensive.

Well, I've spent a good part of the last year being a Bat Mitzvah planner which is essentially the same thing.

We had no favors at our wedding, and I never heard any comlaints...
Since we were combining 2 homes and families, we did give out at each place a "business card" that listed our address, phone number and email addresses. Everyone had been asking if we were going to live at his house or mine, and what our email would be. People seemed very happy to get the cards and I really don't recall any being left at the tables afterwards. FYI-we didn't feed them either--just a cake, nut and punch reception. |

Well, it isn't exactly going to be a cheap wedding..but I am trying to cut corners in some places...
Favors...invitations...flowers... Music is already set...so is the photographer... |

Same with our affair. We printed our own invitations, made the placecards, are making the centerpieces and the favors (chocolate molds). We bought the kids' favors (t-shirts). I'm also making the sign-in board.

If I were a guest, I would not miss the favor. I don't think there have been favors at all receptions I went to. For a couple it has only been an announcement, "Please feel free to break up the table bouquets and take home a few flowers."
Don't feel like you have to justify the cut by giving money to charity. Donate to charity when the time is appropriate. But if you regularly give to the SPCA and your wedding was going to prevent a donation, well I can see why you connect the donation to cutting the expense of favors. |

Absolutely. In fact, I'd say very few have had favors. We were at a wedding last month - no favors there. And I'm 99% sure we had none at ours, though it was 16 years ago and my memory is a little fuzzy.

M mother insisted we had to have some, they were candles wrapped in tulle with a card of some sort.
two years later I insisted mom take the box of most of the candles with her to dispose of. IMO unless it is food, no one takes em (though the card with info, is a good idea) |

I recall one wedding where everyone got a nice photo of the bride and groom. This was years ago, but today, you can print digital photos for less than 20 cents each. Put them in a magnetic sleeve like these (BOX OF MAGNETIC PHOTO SLEEVES,4X5 IN,144 TOTAL,HTF,NEW - eBay (item 180271542395 end time Sep-28-08 04:51:15 PDT)) and you've got a nice favor for less than 40 cents each.

I also don't think your guests will miss having a favor. OTOH, it is inexpensive and easy to wrap up a few pieces of candy in a square of tulle, and people do enjoy that sort of thing. My brother and his wife bundled up a couple of the Hershey Nuggets for their wedding guests. When our DD was born, we gave out something similar, but with the Nestle Treasures (BIG bags at Target).

The two best words in the english language are "open bar".
No booze. That's funny.
