Default Car Repair - Dealership or Auto body shop

My car's engine has been making a grinding noise. I think it may be the brakes & or brake pads. I bought it used a year ago. It has 42,000 miles on it (it's a 2006). Should I take it to the dealership so the warranty might cover any repairs?

Absolutely take it there first to check warranty. If they tell you what it is and give an estimate u can take it elsewhere...

agreeed. If it's still under warranty (powertrain normally is for much longer), it's always worth at least taking it in and see if they can fix it under warranty. If they won't, it will likely be less expensive to take it to a private shop.... Just make sure it's one with a good reputation.

Changing brake pads and rotors can be done in any mechanic shop for much cheaper than at the dealer. I paid about $500 for replacing all brake pads on my honda civic.
