Vehicle donation programs accept most kinds of vehicles and will pick them up.
Vehicle donation programs accept donations of most cars, trucks, vans, trailers, boats, RVs, and even airplanes! When you donate a vehicle to charity, you can usually count on the charity picking up the car donation within 2-4 days. But be sure to ask the charity when you speak with them on the phone how long it will take. Pick-up times vary greatly depending on the city, how far from the closest facility your car is, etc. And, you will receive a tax receipt for car donations you make to approved charities.

Vehicle Donation: Advice

For your own protection, fill in the necessary places including the mileage. If possible, make a photostat copy of the transferred title. Get a receipt from the person who takes your car. Remove the tag(s), check under the seats, glove box, the trunk and over the sun visors for items you might of forgotten to remove. Do not cancel your car insurance on this car until you either transfer the tags to your new/used vehicle or you turn the tags in to the DMV then you can notify the insurance company.
Donate a car in the Golden State - The car donation process is fast and simple. With your California car donation you'll receive a tax deductible receipt plus a free vacation voucher!

Post Car donation resources

Comparing the car donation sites showed me there is a huge difference in the proceeds that its car donation charity gives out.

It turns out there is a resource for checking the charity organization: the non profit Charity Navigator at Charity Navigator - America's Largest Charity Evaluator | Home

I must say the donation organizations give a lot of effort in trying to hide the amount of revenues going back to the charity!

You should also visit the IRS site and read their car donation publication (PDF) in order to understand the fine details since the rules has changed in recent years as my colleague said.

Be especially careful with sites giving you the amount of proceeds in "gross" terms which basically doesn't say anything about the proceeds that are left for the charity from the donated car.

Hope I've helped,
David
