wooo-hooo!! I went and signed the final papers on Jan 8th...now all I have pending is paying the bill for the Nov-Dec period (due on Jan 20th) and a bill for the 1-8th Jan period, which will be due Feb 20th...and with that, I will be free!!
I bought my new phone, which came with $20 "free" welcome balance... wish me luck on using only those $2o this month!! (and subsequent ones!!) In related news, I just read that the Centre for Consumer protection is trying to get the cell phone companies to extend the validity period for pre-paid cards (remember I posted about them being a scam, because most companies will "expire" them after 2-15 days??) I hope they manage to do something about it! |

Good job! It's those moves that really help out your budget. Most of the time it's too much of a hassel for people to change so they pay more than they have to. I bet you spend a lot less on the phone.

Most prepaid cell phone cards such as tracfone, virgin and at&t expire in 90 days unless you add minutes on.
Tracfone does have a deal where you can a phone, 1 yr of worth of minutes (150 minutes) for $94. That works out for $7.99 a month. There is another company called Opex wireless which works on the AT&T network that is $9.99 a month for 30 minutes a month. |

Great job miclason. It sounds like you made a good move and will lower your phone bill. You have to give yourself a good pat on the back for that

Thanks to all. Tree, I live in El Salvador, we have a choice of 4 cell phone companies, the one I switched to will keep your number active for up to a year even if you don't recharge (you can still receive calls, as "caller is the payer")...their cards do not expire, while the other companies offer pre-paid cards that expire after 30 days, which means that, if I buy a $20 card and don't use up all the minutes, I lose them! (this happened to my parents a lot, they were buying $12 cards, which are only valid for 15 days!)...robbers!
