Default Worthless store guarantees

Have you ever heard an advertisement for a store price-match guarantee and realized that it made no sense?

There is a mattress chain around here that advertises that they will beat any competitor's price and if they can't beat the price, they'll give you the mattress for free. I can just see that happening: Sorry, we can't sell it to you for that little. We'll have to give it to you free instead. Of course that would never happen.

Then there is Blinds to Go. Their commercials explain that they manufacture all of their own products. Then they say they have a 200% price-match guarantee. If you find the same product for less elsewhere, they'll refund you 200% of the price. Well, since they manufacture their own merchandise, you won't ever find the same product anywhere else, so the guarantee can never be invoked.

I guess nonsense like this fools a lot of people into thinking they're getting a better deal.

My favorite is when I checked out at best buy with something that costs $10 and they offered me the 'extra coverage' for $9.

I imagine the mattress that they will give you for free isn't the same one, but a junky, different one. Either way, I do doubt anyone ever gets a free one.
