I splurge on myself and I'm proud of it because I do it rarely and when I believe I deserve it after attaining a gaol. My splurge is also quite small - a nice long bath with my favorite bath salts which are a bit expensive.
I think it's a real disservice when people cut all splurges out and leads them to hate budgeting. Do you splurge and if you do, what is it (I may need to change mine!) |

Hot as I want shower every day (that I can find time before I collapse while El is not hungry, and husband is around....)
And lots of food...dried mangoes are so not cost effective, but good. same with Cashews, and such. my grocery bill is a good deal higher than it has to be, and I like it that way. And once or twice a month eating out. |

I splurge quite a bit. I make a decent living and save a bunch of money for retirement and outside of retirement. Could I squeeze a few more dollars out of my income? Absolutely, but at some point in time, you have to enjoy the fruits of your labor. If you are doing everything else right and have the extra funds, then by all means buy the bath salts and the heated leather seats. A thread like this pops up every now and again. I think because the site is "SavingAdvice," you feel like you shouldn't talk about any spending you do. However, you save to eventually spend. Eventually I will even spend my retirement money. We recently did some landscaping/patio on the house, that was our last big splurge. As for a small splurge; I worked out of the house today and didn't want to make a ham sandwich for lunch so I ordered a small pizza from my favorite pizza place. Sat and read the paper and enjoyed my pizza.

My last splurge was a nintendo DS. I ride the bus and was getting bored with just listening to music and reading books. The DS is very good at eating up the time of my commute!
My splurges can be as small as books, cd's and cheap video games or as big as electronics (PS3, TV, sound system). My up and coming splurge is buying a house so right now we are saving our pennies for that (this could be argued since the mortgage payment will be on par with our current rent but its still cheaper to rent when you take maintenance into account so I label it a splurge). |
