Default People are always giving me---

Hats! Straw and palm sun hats! I wear hats with huge brims when working in the garden. Since I'm out there so much, people see me that way a lot. Evidently a lot of people, especially women, have hats in their closets that they never use and when thinking of what to do with them, well, they think of me. Another came my way last week.

When I wear one out, I compost it and turn to one of the gift hats.

But how many Chevy's sombreros can one person use?! I take the decoration off before wearing these; I do wish some dignity.

Is there something people keep giving you?

You must be the hat lady! I am nothing yet. I dont get anything free. OH YES I DO! I get free drinks when I go out to bars! But I think the intentions of the giftors are different from your giftors. So I must be the alcoholic. j/k. Free drinks. I will take it!

Yes. Decorative items that involve frogs or toads. I hate them, but never have the nerve to tell people this- you don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, ya know.

Years ago, we had a very small yard that went with a townhouse we lived in at the time. I had found 3 little terracotta toads for the front garden that I thought were so cute- but that didn't mean that I wanted any more than those 3. Since that time, not a birthday or Christmas can pass without somebody giving me something frog/toad related. My mom is the main instigator, but she has mentioned to others how much I like toads... It is like a runaway train that I can't stop. I sure wish a lot of this stuff could be composted like your hats. At least they can be recycled at the thrift store.

I am hard to buy for.

I used to passingly like unicorns. I got inundated with unicorn stuff. I got this unicorn bust from my grandmother. Oh my, was it bad! I also got a unicorn towel. I am still using that. I don't really care what is on the towels as long as it is useable. At least the towel has a function. The unicorn bust was given away in a white elephant gift exchange. You should have heard the groans in the room when it was opened. I never did admit that I brought it.

My grandmother and my sister are girly girls. They like ribbons and lace and silk and ruffles and such. I am, well, rather butch. I like plain and practical. I usually wear men's clothes (DH's hand me downs). They have bought me tons of clothes trying to get me to be "girly". 99% of them are unuseable for me. I don't dress up unless wearing shorts and putting a short sleeved button up the front shirt over my tank top is "dressed up".

I have gotten to the point that I don't point at anything and say, "oh that's pretty". If I do, someone buys it for me for the next gift giving holiday. **twitch**

Though, I have learned to mention that my towels are wearing out or that I could use new flannel sheets. It works great. Because, then I wind up with things that I could use and I don't care what color the towels or sheets are. And, I get gifts that are useable.

shot glasses. I've never really understood why.
A few years ago, my mother bought me a shot glass, it was odd, but I didn't think much of it. Then she started buying them for me regularly. When I asked her about it, she said it was because I had always collected shot glasses. I never collected shot glasses, as a matter of fact I didn't even have any. I let her know that every shot glass I had was purchased by her, but she still insists on buying them for me....

I get random "jun'que" ...ahem, I mean 'good stuff', that I resell in my booths. Most of my family no longer have garage sales. They just give me their stuff and I resell what I can and pass the rest along to the Goodwill, Disabled American Veterans or the local women's shelter.
