Default Worst Reasons for Not Spending Money

Okay, Last month we had a thread on the worst justifications for spending money. I think it would be interesting to look at the other side of the coin: not spending money or cutting corners on things you really shouldn't.
What brought this to mind is something that happened to me this week. I live in an apartment building, a 'secure' building where you need a seperate key to get into the building and into the apartment. We had a note on our apartment door that management is switching out all the locks so we need to get new building keys. So I go by the office to pick them up. After signing for mine I ask for an additional key for my wife. I got told that they are only giving out one key per apartment but we can make copies of them. I asked 'doesn't that defeat the purpose?' and was told 'It's to save money'. So they claim to be secure buildings, but now, I can make as many keys as I want and start distributing them.......

Laziness is a pretty poor reason and one that I have been guilty of. I needed repair work on the house gutters for several years and just kept letting it slip from my mind. This meant the gutter out front was tilted and always dumping its rain load or melting ice load onto the edge of the front porch below. That led to premature rusting of the porch railings, which was a tedious job to repair. It also led to water re-freezing on the steps and porch, endangering all who would need to walk that way. The ice underfoot necessitated using more salt and more mornings spent with and ice hoe in hand trying to chop the thick ice away. The ice on the stairs worked its way into crevices and cracked the beautiful hard limestone stair tops, making an ugly caulk repair necessary. The soft limestone riser veneers began to pop off and had to be reset with mortar....Don't be lazy; spend your money when you need to for important house maintenance or it will cost you more grief and dollars in the long run.

Or in that same vein...maybe the chest pain, stomach pain, or any pain will go away on it's own, being said through clenched teeth!
