Default Car Donation in New York...Are they ever available to individuals?

I'm always seeing or hearing about people donating their extra car for tax credit. Are there charities which choose to reward these vehicles to low income families or single mothers etc? It seems to make since to me, someone who has a hard time with transportation is going to have difficulties with establishing employment.

The place I donated my car to in MI employed homeless or other people who have encountered hard times and taught them how to fix the car if it needed repairs and then sold it to them or families that came to that place for help.

I wavered on this post for a while but decided that although it's an inexpensive car donation the fact that it is something new to New york market its less-than-luxurious price tag.

my son bought a truck at auction once for 50 dollars it was tittled to a charity for the blind ,it had been given to them as a donation,so i think most charity sell the cars for the money and do not give them away as charity

Post Car donation in New-York

There are several resources resources for donating your car in New-York.
You should visit the IRS site and read their car donation publication (PDF) in order to understand the fine details since the rules has changed in recent years.

Also, take the time to read Laura T. Coffey's msnbc 10 tips on car donation. It's the simplest list of pointers i have found up till now. Finally, use the car donation list in order to find the car donation site that is best for you.

Pay special attention to sites which does not offer the insights of how much of the proceeds eventually goes to the charity.

Best of Luck,
David
