Default How much do you have in your wallet?

How much money do you carry around with you in cash? I always have about $100 in cash. It makes me feel safe in case something comes up where only cash will do. I know these don't happen often and a credit card can be used most of the time, but I had my credit card frozen one time (it wasn't my fault - it was a mistake made by the credit card company) which took a few days to sort out and since then I have always carried cash just in case. I'm wondering how much everyone carries and the reasons why?

Funny you asked this question today. My wife and I just got back from a weekend trip to Atlantic City so at this moment, there is over $1,000 cash in my wallet but it will be mostly emptied out before I leave for work in the morning. Unfortunately, there is a couple hundred less in there than there was Friday when we left for the shore.

Even though I charge most everything, sometimes I still pull out cash. I typically carry a couple hundred dollars. Sometimes it comes in handy if someone needs change at work.

I usually carry no cash. If I have cash I tend to buy junk. I have an odd habit of being really "aware" that I have cash and I feel a great desire to trade it in for useless things.
Also- it never fails that on days I have cashed a check, withdrew alot of money to pay on my credit card, or had money returned to me thatsomeone borrowed- my fiance gets in some snafu that he needs cash. right away. Whenever I have cash on me, about half the amount will end up in my fiances pocket somehow.
So if I plan to buy something I go to the bank and withdraw only enough to purchase the item with. I carry my credit card everywhere for emergencies. Doesnt always work, sometimes I'm up a creek with "cash only" policies, but not often.

$20. I just don't use cash for anything. I don't even shop much (if at all) so $20 is plenty. (In fact I just keep it on hand for "emergency").

We keep a little more cash on hand for emergency. But I generally never carry more than $20 in my wallet. If I somehow end up with more I just put it in the bank. I like being able to track every dollar spent electronically. So yeah, if anyone ever hands me cash (gift or reimbursement) it goes straight to the bank.

I have $65 because someone reimbursed a $50 fee I paid for them at city hall.

Otherwise, I'd have only the $15.

It is not unusual for me to have under $5. I use credit card for nearly everything.

I think I have like $6 in ones. I am hitting the bread store on Monday and I need the ones. They are donation only and the money goes to help support the vehicle at the senior center in town.

I like to keep a few dollars in my purse, but it doesn't always happen. We use the credit card for everything we can to get the points and we pay if off every month.

Right now I have $11 and some change. On any given week I have usually anywhere between $0 and $15 unless we're going out of town somewhere (which isn't that often these days due to gas prices). I find if I keep more cash than that on me, I spend it on useless crap.

I withdraw $200 every 3-4 months to keep as pocket change. I use it to pay for parking, stuff from vending machines, occasional lunch with coworkers, etc. When the cash in my wallet goes down to $20, I withdraw another $200 and so on.

I give myself an allowance of $120 a week, to be used for eating out, gasoline and misc. I also carry $100 in an envelope in my purse and that is for grocery shopping and to refill our prescriptions.
So, I almost always have at least $40 in my wallet and $100 in the envelope. I very seldom charge anything or even carry a credit card.

I use to never carry much cash at all, but now that I do a lot of grocery shopping at a store that only takes cash, check, or debit card, I usually carry around $100 in an envelope for grocery shopping. I'd like to switch to all cash for groceries eventually.

So far as I know 0$..though it could be as much as 40, I tend to try and leave a 20 in there, and often find when I go to put one in I already have one.

Only because I can forget the money so long as I ignore it for at least a couple days (never put money in on the way out the door)

On average, probably around $25. I use a credit card whenever possible, except for purchases less than $10.

When I run out, I grab $40-60 from the cash stash and put it in my wallet.

No more then $10 at any time. I can use my debit card for just about everything. The more cash I have, the more I will stop for fast food for the convience even though I don't need it. Plus I tend to buy more junk from the vending machines, etc at work. I know my spending habits and the more cash I have on hand the more I tend to spend.

None. Seriously. I've had to charge $0.26 at a grocery store. The least I've charged is $0.12. Since I use coupons frequently, often my totals are less than $1.

When I used to travel 100+ round trip I would always have cash on me though. In case of an emergency.

Now, everywhere I travel is less than .25 miles away from a gas station, store or something.

Some change. The last time I had any significant money in my purse was the beginning of June when I had to make a trip to the ER I put the $40+ into my hubbies wallet in case they admitted me and he needed parking/food money. turned out I was discharged. By the end of the week, somehow most of the money was gone also and it had been earmarked as yard sale money. Money burns a hole in my hubbies wallet. I think he thinks more about what he is spending when he uses a cc. I keep the debit cards because it is too hard to be sure what we are spending and I don't keep much in the checking account.
