For the amount that this is worth - I could get a new home in a brand new development...but I really hate those little tiny trees...my neighborhood is so pretty with mature trees.
This home was built in 1965...but all hardwood floors, tile flooring...2,000 sq ft with another 750 sq ft of finished basement with a tile top bar...its definitely in good shape but we would have to update it to our liking. new house is nice too. my friends hubby works for pulte- supposedly they are the best homebuilders around. There are waiting lists in some cases to get a pulte home. Though they have scaled back quite a bit with the economy.
I vote go with the old house. i like the mature trees, and i like recycling houses than clearing land for new ones. But it does sound like a tricky situation if you try to keep the old house.

I'd say if you want an older house, go with someone else's older house. That house will always seem like your dad's house even if you buy it. To me it really wouldn't matter how much I liked my parents' house, I wouldn't want to buy it.
